Job summary

The City of Kings Mountain is seeking a Stormwater Laborer to perform routine, unskilled manual work in construction, repair and maintenance of stormwater facilities. Work is done under close supervision and includes various street maintenance tasks.

The role requires physical stamina, ability to learn, and the ability to operate basic tools and equipment safely. Valid driving license is required.

Qualifications

• Completion of the eighth grade and some experience in heavy manual work is desirable.
• Ability to understand and follow oral instructions.
• Willingness and ability to learn.
• Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods in various weather.
• Ability to operate tools and equipment safely.
• Dependability and ability to work with others.
• Good physical condition.

Responsibilities

• Perform street maintenance duties: clean gutters, repair curbs, patch holes.
• Load/unload gravel, dirt, chemicals, and other materials/tools.
• Mix mortar or concrete for storm system repairs.
• Cut grass and trees, rake leaves; pick up trash.
• Read tape measures and use basic measuring tools.
• Operate mowing equipment and perform grass cutting/trim tasks.
• Assist in repair, installation, and maintenance of drainage lines and related facilities.
• Perform related tasks as required.

STORMWATER LABORER

GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK

Performs routine unskilled manual work in a variety of construction repair and maintenance assignments; Does related work as required Work is performed under immediate supervision

TYPICAL TASKS

• Performs various street maintenance duties such as cleaning gutters repairing curbs patching holes
• Loads and unloads gravel dirt chemicals and other materials tools and equipment
• Mixes mortar or concrete for repair of storm system
• Cuts grass and trees rakes leaves
• Picks up trash
• Reads tape measure
• Operates a variety of mowers and equipment in grass cutting and trimming operation
• Picks up paper and debris on public property and streets
• Performs basic custodial maintenance and repair tasks
• Assists in the repair installation and maintenance of drainage lines ditches and related facilities
• Operates various equipment in performance of maintenance tasks
• Performs related tasks as required
