Job summary

Arcadis in Houston seeks a Senior Stormwater Engineer to join our national drainage practice. The role focuses on roadway drainage design and mentoring a small team. Hybrid work is available, with the requirement to remain within driving distance of the office.

You will apply advanced stormwater hydraulics, coordinate with multiple disciplines, and contribute to local and national projects. A Texas PE and 8+ years of TxDOT experience are expected.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of TxDOT drainage design experience.
  • ABET-accredited Bachelor of Civil Engineering.
  • Texas Professional Engineer (PE) license.

Responsibilities

  • Lead roadway drainage design across multiple projects and manage a team of up to 5 engineers.
  • Prepare construction plans, cost estimates, and technical memos.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide QA/QC for drainage calculations.
  • Coordinate with project managers and other disciplines (roadway, structures, utilities).
  • Develop proposals, presentations, and participate in interviews.

Role Description

Arcadisis seeking a Senior Stormwater Engineer to join our national drainage practice. We have a strong backlog of work and are expanding our Texas team in Houston. Hybrid work available but you must be physically located within driving distance of the office location. Under the direction of our established leadership team, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting projects that will challenge you and provide growth in your career. We have a flexible work environment allowing you to collaborate with a team on local, national, and international projects.

Role Accountabilities
  • Engineering design for numerous roadway drainage and design-build projects including collector streets, urban arterials, rural and urban expressways, interstates, and bridge replacements across the southeast.
  • Assist in all aspects of roadway drainage design including bridge hydraulic studies, culvert design, closed drainage system design, pond design, and erosion and sedimentation control.
  • Prepare construction plans and project displays.
  • Prepare cost estimates, reports, and technical memos.
  • Assist in proposal development, presentations, and interviews.
  • Provide quality control reviews for drainage calculations and plans.
  • Utilize various design software including MicroStation, Inroads, ORD-SUDA, AutoCAD Civil 3d, Microsoft Excel, GIS, ICPR, HEC-RAS, HY8, FlowMaster, Pond Pack, StormCAD, SMS, SRH2D, and HEC-RAS 2D to assist with the design and preparation of construction plans.
  • Coordinate with project managers and other disciplines including roadway, structures, utilities, etc.
  • Direct and mentor junior engineers
  • Manage a team of up to 5 engineers
  • Requires no technical supervision
Qualifications & Experience
Required Qualifications
  • 8+ years of relevant TxDOT drainage design experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET Accredited University
  • Texas PE
Key Skills/Attributes
  • Experience working on TxDOT projects.
  • In depth understanding of Bridge Hydraulics Analysis is a plus.
  • Understanding of FEMA floodplain regulationsis a plus.
  • Knowledge of stormwater design including open channel conveyance and closed drainage systems.
  • Experience with permitting requirements with respect to drainage for transportation projects.
  • Knowledge of stormwater treatment using appropriate BMPs suitable for the linear nature of transportation projects
  • Possess effective communication (written and verbal), teamwork skills and the flexibility to complete a wide range of tasks including field work.
  • Exhibit the initiative and ability to tackle new projects and other challenges regularly.

We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $99,000 - $125,000. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
