Job summary

Volkert Inc. seeks an experienced Senior Drainage Project Engineer to support our Southwest Region across Austin, Houston, and other TX locations. The role requires 10+ years of drainage/water resources and TxDOT experience and PE licensure or ability to obtain within 6 months.

You will design stormwater systems, analyze hydrologic models, prepare project plans using OpenRoads Designer, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver complex projects in Texas.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's of Science in Civil Engineering.
• Valid PE licensure or ability to acquire it within 6 months.
• 10+ years of drainage/water resources and TxDOT experience.
• Experience with OpenRoads Designer, StormCAD, ICPR, HEC-RAS, GIS and/or SUDA.
• Previous TxDOT Drainage design experience and knowledge of TxDOT standards and procedures.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment.
• Valid driver's license and a satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR).

Responsibilities

• Collect data for Project Plans and reports.
• Design stormwater management and storm drain systems; erosion control.
• Analyze hydrologic and hydraulic models for Transportation Improvement projects.
• Prepare project plans using OpenRoads Designer.
• Prepare engineering reports, calculations and schedules.
• Review quantities, costs, and drawings for compliance with project requirements.
• Collaborate across disciplines and with subconsultants to deliver projects on time and within budget.
• Oversee design activities, mentor junior staff, and assist with other civil engineering tasks.

Are we the road to your future?

We are currently searching for an experienced Senior Drainage Project Engineer to support our Southwest Region located in Austin, Houston, McKinney, Rockwall, Round Rock, San Antonio, or Tyler, TX.

To be considered for this position, applicants must have at minimum, 10 years of progressive drainage/water resources and TxDOT experience.

What you'll be doing

• Collecting and analyzing data for inclusion in Project Plans and reports
• Using computer engineering software to design stormwater management and storm drain systems, as well as soil erosion and sediment control systems
• Analyzing and designing hydrologic and hydraulic models for Transportation Improvement projects
• Permitting with different Regulatory and Water Management agencies
• Assisting and preparing project plans using OpenRoads Designer
• Contributing to the preparation and/or modification of considerable scope and complexity engineering reports and calculations for a wide variety of projects
• Preparing and assisting in the preparation of project construction details, quantities, cost estimates and project specifications
• Reviewing project quantity estimates, details, and check calculations and drawings for compliance to project requirements
• Preparing and assisting with the preparation of project schedules
• Collaborating across multiple disciplines, subconsultants, and other professionals to successfully deliver quality projects within budget and schedule
• Overseeing project design activities, supervising production efforts, and mentoring junior level support staff and other designers
• Performing other professional, management, marketing and networking duties as assigned
• Assist with roadway project development and other misc. civil engineering tasks for project design and delivery

What you need to have

• Bachelor's of Science in Civil Engineering
• Valid Professional Engineering Licensure or the ability to acquire it within 6 months
• 10+ years of relative/progressive drainage/water resources and TxDOT experience
• Experience with OpenRoads Designer, Storm CAD, ICPR, HEC-RAS, GIS and/or SUDA software
• Previous TxDOT Drainage design experience and strong knowledge of TxDOT standards and procedures
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment.
• Valid driver's license and a satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)
