Job summary

City of Salem is seeking a Stormwater Monitoring Technician to collect water quality and flow data and support the City’s flood warning system. You will join the Stormwater Quality Monitoring team in the field, operating specialized equipment and following MS4/NPDES monitoring procedures to protect Salem’s waterways.

We offer hands‑on learning in water quality sampling, data logging, equipment maintenance, and field safety.

Qualifications

Must pass a pre‑employment background check.
Must have an Oregon Driver license and a driving record that meets the City of Salem's driving standards.
Considerable experience in flow monitoring; completion of a two‑year technical course or two year college degree with major coursework in natural resources, water quality sampling, environmental sciences, or related fields; or any combination of education, experience, and training that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities as listed, and ability to perform the essential job functions.

Responsibilities

Sample collection, field measurements, and conducting streamflow discharge measurements.
Maintain monitoring and rain gauge equipment.
Assist with data collection for the City’s flood warning system to support timely flood response.
Document field activities and equipment maintenance accurately and report any issues to supervisors promptly.
Work outdoors in various weather conditions, including inclement weather, and in potentially challenging environments such as streams and roadways, while adhering to safety protocols.
