Power Your Future with Qualus in our Distribution department as a Storm Damage Assessor (Seasonal)

This role is a dynamic and independent position that involves data entry, daily travel, and distribution equipment inspections. As a tech-savvy professional proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, the candidate will use a smartphone and/or tablet device to conduct visual analyses, capture photographs, and enter data into the mobile device, supporting critical distribution field data collection projects. This role is ideally suited for candidates with previous experience in meter reading or utility work. Situational awareness, map reading, and safety are essential skills, and a background in distribution would be a valuable asset.

  • MINIMUM OF 10+ YEARS LINEMAN EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR INSPECTIONS

As a Data Collection Technician (Damage Assessor) you are responsible for leading a two-person team with an Operations Driver (Wire Down Guard) assigned to patrol distribution lines and equipment damaged by hurricane, ice, wind or other causes. You must ensure crews have proper materials for restoration work and know appropriate electrical distribution safety rules.

As a Data Collection Technician (Damage Assessor), your responsibility will be to identify primary and secondary electrical facilities, including poles, primary wires, secondary wires, services, primary insulators, transformers, fuses, reclosers, regulators, OCBs, substations, etc. You must be able to identify all necessary repairs required for restoration and complete client specific damage reports in detail.

Comprehensive training in safety protocols for both the host utility and Qualus will be provided. Please be prepared for extended on-site hours when called to work. This role always requires travel, and your work schedule may vary, potentially including weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Responsibilities
  • Complete detailed assessments that are accurate to the field conditions presented.
  • Accurately record data using correct standards such that the resulting analysis is clear and easily understood by office-based project personnel.
  • Communicate with the team to ensure consistency and accuracy in data collection procedures.
  • Utilize smartphones and/or tablets to collect and document relevant data accurately and efficiently.
  • Utilize GPS software and/or geospatial coordinates to navigate the assigned territory and client sites.
  • Correctly identify items to be documented in the field with minimal supervisory assistance.
  • Meets production targets and understands the importance of project deliverables and milestones.
  • Consistently follow safety protocols and participate in all safety initiatives.
  • Willingness to assist in power restoration efforts in natural disaster events.
  • Overnight travel may be required periodically.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to perform visual assessments effectively.
  • Proficiency in using smartphones and tablets for data entry and communication.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work independently with little to no supervision.
  • Willingness to travel to various work sites within the client's service territory, often extensively and sometimes with little notice.
  • Willingness to adapt to new site inspections and outdoor environments, including varying weather conditions and terrain.
  • Willingness to travel overnight, periodically.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record
  • Strong navigational skills and ability to read maps.
  • Proficient in using basic computer software and Microsoft Office Suite applications.
  • Maintain a clean and professional appearance, representing the company positively during client interactions.
  • Maintain proper time management skills to ensure efficient work and adherence to project timelines.
  • Meet company standards for pre-employment background checks and drug screening.
  • Must demonstrate the highest standards of ethics and integrity.
  • Commitment to safety protocols and guidelines.
  • Ability to multi-task and work with a variety of projects and deadlines.
  • Strong understanding of distribution pole equipment a plus (i.e. wire size, wire type, cable TV, telephone, fiber optic, etc.).
Work Environment:
  • Expect to be on-site for an extended period when mobilized.
  • 100% travel required.
  • Expect to work up to 16-hour days, 7 days a week until customers are restored with electricity.
  • Work schedule varies and may include weekends, nights, and holidays.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be physically capable of walking out power line right of ways under various weather and terrain conditions as described in the above position description.
  • Job will generally be performed outdoors in natural weather conditions and will require travel to visit client sites.
  • Appropriate safety training and safety equipment will be provided by Qualus and/or Client as required.
  • While performing duties of this job, would occasionally require to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, talk and hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects and tools.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perceptions, and the ability to adjust focus.
