Job summary

The Missouri Department of Corrections is hiring a Stores/Warehouse Assistant to oversee inventory, receive and stock goods, and supervise staff in a correctional facility store environment. You will manage inventories, coordinate orders, and ensure accurate records while supporting security and safety protocols.

Position offers shift differentials for certain hours, potential housing differentials, and a path for internal advancement within the department.

Qualifications

• One or more years of experience as a Stores/Warehouse Assistant under the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System.
• AND possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency
• Three or more years of experience maintaining inventory items and related records; credits may substitute on a year-for-year basis (30 credits = 1 year)
• Contingent upon position, eligibility for shift differential and housing differential may apply.

Responsibilities

• Oversees major storekeeping areas (canteen, clothing storeroom, perishable goods storeroom) and assists the Supply Manager in warehouse operations.
• Receives and inspects inbound items; certifies receipts for payment and stores items.
• Orders inventory to replenish stock and establishes reorder levels based on usage and lead times.
• Monitors environmental conditions in storage areas and handles surplus property; coordinates delivery and shipping.
• Operates cash register and maintains inventory records; conducts physical counts and reconciliations.
• Operates material handling equipment and supervises staff or offenders engaged in loading/unloading and stocking.

The annual salary listed for this position includes the additional $1.50 per hour maximum security differential ($3,120 annually) for all full-time positions domiciled in a maximum-security institution.

• Oversees a major storekeeping area such as the canteen operations/commissary operations/clothing storeroom/perishable food storeroom; serves as an assistant to a supply manager in the operation of a warehouse
• Receives and unpacks incoming inventory items; inspects for quality, quantity, and conformance with specifications; rejects shipments not meeting indicated specifications; and certifies receipts in order to authorize payment to vendors; labels and places inventory items in appropriate storage areas; rotates as necessary
• Orders inventory using established specifications to replenish stock; purchases emergency items; Develops storekeeping methods and procedures to ensure efficiency; establishes inventory levels and reorder points based on usage and delivery lead times to ensure adequate supply
• Monitors temperature/humidity/other environmental factors in storage areas for perishable goods; Transfers and sells surplus property; fills requisitions; prepares items to be delivered or shipped; makes necessary transportation arrangements
• Operates a cash register; counts money; prices items; places merchandise on shelves; maintains computerized and/or manual records of inventory items received/stored/issued/ordered/returned/ disposed/ sold; takes physical inventories to determine quantities on hand and/or reconcile records
• Operates forklifts/pallet jacks/other material handling equipment; maintains clean and orderly storage/stores areas
• Leads and/or supervises staff, offenders, and/or residents engaged in loading/unloading/storing/ distributing inventory items; exercises discretion and independence in the performance of responsibilities within established policies and procedures; receives general administrative direction from a Supply Manager or from another administrative supervisor; performs other related work as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

One or more years of experience as a Stores/Warehouse Assistant with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System; AND possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency

Three or more years of experience maintaining inventory items and related records; AND possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency

(Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience at a rate of 30 earned credit hours for one year)

Contingent upon your position, you may also be eligible to receive:

• A $2.00 per hour shift differential if you are assigned to a shift that begins on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am and are employed at a 24/7 congregate care facility (i.e. institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center).
• A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing differential if you are assigned a regular post within a restrict housing/segregation unit at any facility.

The Department of Corrections currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years! If you are transferring from another State of Missouri agency and are receiving state retention pay, please be advised that the Missouri Department of Corrections administers retention based upon your retention anniversary date. As a result, your retention pay upon transfer may differ from what you were receiving at your previous agency until you reach your applicable retention anniversary date.
