Job summary

American Electric Power in Tulsa, Oklahoma is seeking an Inventory Clerk/Storekeeper to receive, inspect, store and issue materials and equipment. You will use MMS and Maximo, operate forklifts, and perform routine inventories to ensure accurate records and timely deliveries.

You will work under general supervision, lifting up to 70 pounds and adhering to safety rules. A background in logistics and basic computer skills (Excel/Word) is required, with CDL or driver’s license as a possible asset.

Qualifications

• High School Degree or equivalent education (GED).
• Must have at least 1 year in inventory control or warehousing.
• Experience with Maximo inventory system is preferred.
• Basic computer skills; Excel and Word experience preferred.
• Must be able to safely lift up to 70 pounds and meet PAT requirements.

Responsibilities

• Receive, check, inspect for defects, count and store materials and equipment.
• Operate MMS terminal and office machines; assist in data entry and paperwork.
• Operate material handling equipment (forklifts, etc.).
• Perform physical inventories and maintain organized storage areas.

Perform duties under general supervision that involve receiving, checking, inspecting, recording, storing and issuing new, returned and reclaimed stores material, supplies and equipment; issue, track and inspect materials as assigned.

Job Description

What You’ll Do:

• Receive, check, inspect for breakage and apparent defects; identify, count, weigh, sort, store and issue new, returned and reclaimed stores material, tools, supplies and equipment from all sources in accordance with specified procedures and complete related papers; make recommendations and suggestions for improvement.

• Operate the Materials Management System (MMS) computer terminal and other office machines such as adding machines and calculators.

• Operate material handling equipment such as overhead crane, lift trucks, automotive and other stores equipment as assigned.

• Perform physical inventories of material and supplies, capitalized spare parts, tools and exempt material as assigned.

• Load, unload, pack, unpack, stock, move, count, weigh, sort and arrange equipment, tools and supplies in bins, shelves and storage areas.

• Prepare stores documents as required with accurate and appropriate data.

• Drive company vehicles and pick up and deliver freight, express, parcel post, supplies, material and equipment from and to manufacturers, dealers, agencies and other company locations.

• Maintain equipment, tools and work area in a clean, orderly and safe condition.

• Perform all duties in accordance with company's safety rules, operating regulations and practices and report unsafe conditions and practices.

• Train for and carry out assignments in fire fighting, first aid, and other emergency response programs as required.

• Report irregularities and abnormal conditions to the appropriate supervision.

• Assist employees as required.

• Assist in performing necessary stores quality control functions as required.

• Perform similar or less skilled work.

What We’re Looking For:

Work Experience requirement listed below:

Through a combination of education and/or experience, must have sufficient knowledge and skills to perform the duties and/or responsibilities listed above, and also have the physical capabilities to perform the required work.

A minimum of one year work experience in inventory control and management, material handling, warehousing, or related experience is required.

Must possess basic computer skills to use inventory management software such as Maximo; Microsoft Excel and Word experience is also preferred.

Must have sufficient knowledge and skills to perform the duties and/or responsibilities listed above, and also have the physical capabilities to perform the required work. Must possess a strong working knowledge of logistics related to shipping and relocating inventory.

Must understand and perform basic math functions. Must be able to work independently and possess good communication skills. Must be able to safely lift up to 70 pounds; successful completion of the Physical Ability Test (PAT) is required.

Must possess the appropriate State drive license. If a Commercial Drive License (CDL) is required, the incumbent must obtain the CDL within six months of entry into this job classification or vacate the current job classification.

Must be able to operate material handling equipment including motorized forklifts and road vehicles.

The Physical Demand Level for this job is: H – Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10-20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
