The Sales Manager position is responsible for the overall management and execution of operational excellence for the entire store, with specific focus on supervision and management of team members in Hardlines and Softlines Sales (including Camping, Fishing & Hunting, Outdoor, Firearms, Apparel, Footwear, and Team Sports). It directs and coordinates activities through subordinate team leads and team members. This leadership role aims to drive the store's overall performance through supervision, communication, and coordination, impacting customer satisfaction, store profitability, and our purpose.

Job Description

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.

Work Experience:

  • At least three years of relevant work experience required.
  • Proven success in leading departments of up to 40 people to achieve operational excellence and sales targets.

Skills:

  • Exceptional supervisory and management skills; ability to coach team members effectively; leads by example.
  • Excellent customer service orientation.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Business acumen, understanding market and competition, and focus on profitability.
  • Ability to analyze business periodicals, journals, and regulations.
  • Clear and persuasive communication skills; active listening.
  • Proficiency in reports, business correspondence, and presentations.
  • Decision-making skills using common sense and reasoning.
  • Knowledge of inventory software, order processing, payroll systems, and Microsoft Office.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Full-time position averaging 45-50 hours/week.
  • Manage the store's operations and ensure excellence.
  • Oversee Hardlines and Softlines Sales teams, participate in personnel decisions.
  • Provide direction and supervise daily operations to ensure excellent customer service.
  • Develop strategies to meet operational goals, including sales, staffing, and training.
  • Manage workforce productivity and process improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with sales, safety, and security policies and regulations.
  • Supervise departmental zoning and standards adherence.
  • Support store leadership in implementing store initiatives.
  • Participate in store walks with regional and district leadership, implement feedback.
  • Audit firearm sales in compliance with laws, complete ATF Form 4473, conduct background checks, and sign as final approver.
  • Complete Firearms Sales Certification and Power Industrial Truck Certification training.
  • Complete Academy Leadership University.
  • Oversee team member lifecycle, including hiring, onboarding, and coaching.
  • Enforce company policies, procedures, and safety rules.
  • Adhere to work hours, policies, and rules for management employees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements & Attendance:

  • Regularly talk, hear; stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach.
  • Occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl.
  • Lift/move up to 25 pounds regularly, 10 pounds frequently.
  • Vision abilities include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, focus adjustment.
