Job summary

The Salvation Army Thrift Store in Kansas City is seeking a Store Sales Associate I to help create a positive shopping experience, process donations, and maintain an organized, mission-driven thrift shop.

You will provide friendly customer service, handle transactions at the register, and work with the team to achieve sales goals while maintaining the store’s welcoming atmosphere.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or currently pursuing one.
• Retail, customer service, or cashiering experience preferred.
• Basic computer and cash-handling skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs regularly.
• Stand for extended periods in a dusty store environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide excellent customer service and represent The Salvation Army’s mission and values.
• Greet donors and shoppers at the register and assist with transactions.
• Operate the Point-of-Sale (POS) system and handle all cash transactions accurately.
• Open, close, and balance cash drawers per TSA cash handling policies.
• Maintain a clean, organized store by restocking shelves and tidying work areas.
• Ensure merchandise is displayed properly and replenished regularly.
• Follow policies regarding sale of donated goods.
• Collaborate with team members and store management to meet goals.
• Support store productivity benchmarks and contribute to sales targets.
• Be available for flexible scheduling including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
