The Operations Manager position is responsible for the overall management and execution of operational excellence across the entire store, with a focus on supervising and managing team members in store operations, including Asset Protection, Cashiers, Loss Prevention, Inventory Control, and Maintenance. This role involves directing activities through subordinate team leads and employees, effectively driving overall store performance through supervision, communication, and coordination. The Operations Manager leads the team to achieve goals that impact customer satisfaction, store profitability, and align with Academy's purpose.

Job Description:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.

Work Experience:

  • At least three years of relevant experience required.
  • Proven success in leading departments of up to 40 people to drive operational excellence and meet sales targets.

Other Requirements:

  • Must meet federal and state requirements for selling and processing firearms transactions.
  • Must meet requirements to qualify for/maintain FOID card (Illinois only).

Skills:

  • Exceptional supervisory and management skills; ability to coach team members effectively and lead by example.

  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Business acumen with understanding of market, competition, and profitability targets.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret business-related information.

  • Working knowledge of inventory software, order processing, payroll systems, and Microsoft Office.
  • Proficiency in basic mathematical computations.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage overall store operations and ensure operational excellence.
  • Participate in personnel decisions including hiring, training, and development of the Operations team.
  • Provide daily supervision to Team Leads and other staff to ensure exceptional customer service.
  • Develop strategies to meet weekly and monthly operational goals, including staffing and scheduling.
  • Manage workforce productivity and process improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with sales, safety, and security regulations.
  • Supervise the execution of assignments delegated by the Store Director.
  • Participate in store walks with leadership and implement feedback.
  • Audit firearm sales in compliance with laws, including completing ATF Form 4473 and background checks.
  • Complete required certifications for firearms sales and power industrial trucks.
  • Participate in Academy Leadership University.
  • Oversee the talent lifecycle, including hiring, onboarding, and coaching.
  • Enforce company policies, procedures, and safety rules.
  • Adhere to work hours and management policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements & Attendance:
  • Regularly talk, hear, stand, walk, sit, and use hands.
  • Occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception.
