Job summary

The Save Mart Companies in California is seeking a Head Clerk to lead store operations, direct department staff, and ensure outstanding customer service. This role involves merchandising, stock control, and maintaining a clean, safe store environment.

You will supervise checkers and clerks, coordinate display resets, monitor promotions, and handle inventory planning to maximize sales. Prior grocery retail leadership experience is required (Key Carrier 6+ months or Perimeter Dept Manager 9+

Qualifications

• Minimum six months as Key Carrier or 9 months as Perimeter Department Manager (or equivalent grocery retail management experience).
• Ability to work a variety of required retail hours.
• Strong knowledge of store layout, pricing, merchandising, and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Monitor ads/promotions/seasonal changes and ensure display setups, schematics, signage, and decorations.
• Supervise and direct checkers, service clerks and others to ensure efficient customer service and staffing.
• Stock shelves and displays safely to maintain appearance and meet customer demand; manage inventory levels.
• Oversee and coordinate staff activities to ensure safe, clean, and compliant store operations.
• Process customer purchases at checkout and maintain high service standards.
