Direct and supervise all functions, duties, and activities for the department. Support the day-to-day functions of the Grocery operations. Responsibilities include:

  • Promoting trust and respect among associates.
  • Communicating company, department, and job-specific information to associates.
  • Collaborating with associates and promoting teamwork to help achieve company/store goals.
  • Establishing performance goals for the department and empowering associates to meet or exceed targets.
  • Developing adequate scheduling to manage customer volume throughout hours of operation.
  • Training and developing associates on performance of their job and participating in performance appraisals.
  • Adhering to all local, state, and federal laws, and company guidelines.
  • Gaining and maintaining knowledge of products sold within the department and responding to questions and making suggestions about products.
  • Offering product samples to help customers discover new items or products they inquire about.
  • Informing customers of grocery specials.
  • Developing and implementing a department business plan to achieve desired results.
  • Creating and executing sales promotions in partnership with store management.
  • Preparing and submitting seasonal critiques for the sales and merchandising supervisor.
  • Implementing the period promotional plan for the department.
  • Staying current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads.
  • Monitoring and controlling expenses for the department.
  • Assisting store management in preparing the store/department budget, profit and loss reviews, and taking appropriate action on all financial reports.
  • Maintaining awareness of inventory/stocking conditions and noting discrepancies.
  • Scheduling daily, weekly, and monthly price changes by updating shelf tags and promotional signs.
  • Planning, organizing, and supervising the inventory process.
  • Training department associates on inventory/stocking and Computer Assisted Ordering.
  • Adhering to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Ensuring proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and temperature logs are kept.
  • Reinforcing safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identifying unsafe conditions.
  • Practicing preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying management of repairs.
  • Reporting customer or employee accidents and safety risks or issues, including illegal activity.
  • Performing essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Effective communication skills
  • Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction)
  • Ability to handle stressful situations

Desired:

  • High school education or equivalent (preferred)
  • Management experience (preferred)
  • Grocery and retail experience (preferred)
