GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Store Manager Candidate supports the Store Manager in implementing store processes including employee supervision, staffing, inventory management, stocking and receiving, paperwork, and store needs. This position is designed to develop external candidates for the Store Manager role and is held for a limited period.
DUTIES and ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assist in recruiting and staffing.
- Support store merchandising by staging, stocking, and presenting merchandise per store standards and manager directions, utilizing fixtures, signage, and pricing effectively.
- Assist in inventory management, including damages, markdowns, register scanning, paperwork, and conducting inventories.
- Follow ordering practices to meet or exceed in-stock targets.
- Provide excellent customer service leadership.
- Model company procedures and policies as outlined in the employee handbook and SOP manual.
- Participate in store opening and closing activities.
- Ensure secure deposit of all company funds.
- Maintain store financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, and security practices.
- Maintain a clean, well-stocked, and safe store environment.
- Operate the store in the manager's absence.
- Analyze operating statements to identify business trends and opportunities for expense control and shrink reduction.
- Complete all required paperwork and documentation timely and accurately.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS:
- Ability to interpret diagrams, safety rules, instructions, and manuals.
- Mathematical skills including calculations and percentages.
- Knowledge of cash handling, cashier accountability, and deposit controls.
- Ability to learn IBM cash register functions and report generation.
- Understanding of inventory management and merchandising practices.
- Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety policies (deposits, keys, SAFE and STARS programs).
- Recruitment, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Problem-solving abilities in varied situations.
Preference may be given to bilingual Spanish speakers at certain locations.
WORK EXPERIENCE and/or EDUCATION:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- At least one year of retail experience preferred for external candidates.

WORKING CONDITIONS and PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, and kneeling.
- Handling merchandise and equipment regularly.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds frequently and up to 55 pounds occasionally.
- Occasional climbing and driving.
- Fast-paced environment with moderate noise; exposure to outside weather conditions occasionally.
Note: Some travel with limited overnight stays required.
