GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Store Manager Candidate supports the Store Manager in implementing store processes, including employee supervision, staffing, inventory management, stocking, receiving, paperwork, and store needs. This role is intended to develop external candidates for the Store Manager position and is held for a limited period.

DUTIES and ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  1. Assist in recruiting and staffing activities.
  2. Support store merchandising by staging, stocking, and presenting merchandise according to store standards and manager instructions; properly utilize fixtures, signage, and pricing.
  3. Assist with inventory management, including damages, markdowns, register scanning, paperwork, and facility controls; conduct inventories.
  4. Follow ordering practices to meet or exceed in-stock targets.
  5. Provide excellent customer service leadership.
  6. Model company procedures and policies as outlined in the employee handbook, SOP manual, and communications.
  7. Participate in store opening and closing activities.
  8. Ensure the safe deposit of all company funds in the designated bank.
  9. Maintain store financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, and security practices.
  10. Maintain a clean, well-stocked, and safe store environment.
  11. Operate the store in the manager’s absence.
  12. Review operating statements to identify business trends and opportunities for expense control and error correction.
  13. Complete all required paperwork and documentation timely.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS:
  1. Ability to interpret documents, safety rules, and procedures manuals.
  2. Mathematical skills including calculations and percentages.
  3. Knowledge of cash handling, cashier accountability, and deposit controls.
  4. Ability to learn IBM cash register functions and report generation.
  5. Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
  6. Understanding of cash, facility, and safety control policies.
  7. Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance.
  8. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  9. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  10. Problem-solving skills in variable situations.

Preference may be given to bilingual Spanish speakers at certain locations.

WORK EXPERIENCE and/or EDUCATION:
  1. High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  2. At least one year of retail experience preferred for external candidates.

WORKING CONDITIONS and PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, and kneeling.
  2. Handling merchandise and equipment regularly.
  3. Lifting up to 40 pounds frequently; occasionally up to 55 pounds.
  4. Occasional climbing and driving for store-related activities.
  5. Fast-paced environment with moderate noise; occasional exposure to outside weather.

Note: Some travel with limited overnight stays required.
