Store Leader Trainee
Responsibilities:
The Leader-in-Training position is a non-exempt hourly role eligible for overtime in accordance with federal and state laws. The MIT is in training to learn the functions and responsibilities of the Facility Leader position. Responsibilities include learning and assisting in the duties required of a Facility Leader, which are listed below:
Human Resources Management:
- Maintain positive employee relations and morale by supervising employees and ensuring company policies and procedures are followed.
- Recruit, interview, and hire employees; ensure the hiring process is completed and the facility is properly staffed.
- Train and develop all employees; supervise training conducted by Assistant Leader or other designees.
- Manage labor hours through proper scheduling.
- Determine and adjust employee pay rates.
- Ensure safety, security, and EEO policies are followed by all employees.
- Follow laws related to restricted beverage and tobacco sales.
- Evaluate and discipline employees consistently for policy violations.
- Supervise shift coverage and fill in as needed.
- Conduct performance reviews and communicate employee status changes to HR.
- Handle employee relations issues, document performance, manage terminations, and communicate issues to the Area Operations Leader.
- Initiate and document employee terminations with approval and attend unemployment hearings.
- Conduct monthly employee meetings to communicate store issues and promote teamwork.
Financial Management:
- Manage expenses, profits, and losses to ensure financial stability.
- Reconcile store accounting with company reports.
- Manage sales records, expenses, and profitability factors.
- Ensure accurate daily bookkeeping, including gas and register readings.
- Close out lottery transactions and reconcile funds.
- Complete and send DSR/DIR reports to accounting.
- Monitor gas prices and report to corporate; ensure pump reading accuracy.
- Maintain stock levels and oversee bank deposits.
Quality Customer Service:
- Ensure prompt, courteous service and safe conditions.
- Maintain neat personal appearance per company policy.
Marketing:
- Manage sales promotions, new programs, and vendor communication.
- Order and merchandise products per inventory guidelines.
- Suggest new products/services based on customer and competitor analysis.
- Monitor inventory levels and ensure compliance with merchandise agreements.
- Conduct spot checks on pricing and display neatness.
- Maintain vendor relationships and ensure delivery accuracy.
Food Service Management:
- Manage food service programs and supervise Food Service Leader.
- Maintain food quality and sanitation standards.
- Develop vendor relationships for quality service.
- Maintain stock levels based on build-to-book.
Loss Prevention:
- Implement security measures and ensure compliance.
- Control inventory shrinkage and investigate discrepancies.
- Conduct shift cash audits and handle deposits.
Safety and Maintenance:
- Perform safety inspections and maintain equipment.
- Report accidents and damages.
- Perform minor repairs and notify maintenance of major issues.
Miscellaneous:
- Perform other duties as needed for facility and program operations.
- Ensure attendance complies with company policies.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- At least 1 year of retail management or relevant experience required.
- Authorized to work in the U.S.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and insurance as per state regulations.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Leadership, customer service, and team development skills.
- Ability to analyze P&L and store reports.
- Ability to interpret rules and manuals.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Proficient in accounting and computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel).
- Experience with PDI/Verifone/Topaz preferred.
Physical Demands:
- Stand and walk for full shifts.
- Lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Push/pull up to 128 pounds.
- Bend, reach, and manipulate objects during work.
