Job description

Peak Design makes radical, meticulously-engineered gear for detail-obsessed people. Our backpacks, travel bags, camera gear, and phone accessories are used dang-near everywhere. If you’ve visited Machu Picchu, Tokyo, or an REI store in the last 10 years, you’ve been within ogling distance of a Peak Design product.

We’re looking for a curious, grounded, and highly self-directed Store Lead to run the day-to-day experience at our Bridgeport Village store.

This is a hands-on retail role. At least 80% of your time will be spent doing Gear Expert work: helping customers, demonstrating products, recommending the right setup, and driving sales. Because the Bridgeport Village store operates with a small team and often with one person working independently, you should be comfortable owning the customer experience and store operations without needing constant direction.

This isn’t a traditional management role with a large team to supervise. It’s a role for someone who enjoys working independently, connecting with customers, and taking pride in keeping a small store running beautifully.

Gear Expert and Customer Experience (80%)

  • Welcome customers and create a thoughtful, low-pressure shopping experience.
  • Ask good questions, understand what customers need, and guide them toward the right products.
  • Demonstrate Peak Design gear clearly and confidently.
  • Build complete product solutions while staying focused on what is genuinely useful to the customer.
  • Develop deep product knowledge and confidently answer detailed questions.
  • Work toward individual and store sales goals.

Leadership and Team Support (5%)

  • Serve as the decision-maker on duty and confidently manage the store when working independently.
  • Model Peak Design’s hospitality standards, product knowledge, and approach to customer service.
  • Support Gear Experts through real-time feedback and product education when working together.
  • Take ownership of problems and exercise sound judgment.

Store Operations (10%)

  • Complete opening and closing routines.
  • Receive, replenish, organize, and maintain inventory.
  • Keep the sales floor and back-of-house areas clean, organized, and customer-ready.
  • Complete daily operational tasks accurately and communicate issues to the broader Retail team.
  • Identify problems, use good judgment, and take initiative when working independently.

Visual Merchandising and Store Readiness (5%)

  • Execute seasonal visual merchandising updates and product launches.
  • Maintain displays, signage, pricing, and overall store presentation.
  • Ensure new products and campaign materials are placed correctly and on time.
About the role
  • Spend the majority of each shift directly helping customers and selling Peak Design products
  • Independently manage the customer experience from opening through closing
  • Demonstrate products and helping customers build the right setup for their needs
  • Maintain strong knowledge across Peak Design's product categories
  • Work toward sales, conversion, and customer-experience goals
  • Open, close, restock, clean, and complete daily operational tasks
  • Receive and organize inventory
  • Execute visual merchandising and product-launch updates
  • Communicate clearly with the broader corporate Retail team
  • Recognize when something needs attention and taking ownership
  • Maintain a welcoming, organized, and consistently sharp store
Role requirements
  • Availability:
    • Available for closing shifts ~12:30 - 8:30pm
  • 1–3 years of retail, sales, hospitality, or customer-facing experience
  • Comfortable working independently for extended periods
  • Strong communication and customer-service instincts
  • Confidence initiating conversations and guiding customers through a sale
  • Dependable, organized, and able to manage time without close supervision
  • Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean, polished store
  • Curiosity about people and products
  • Sound judgment and the ability to solve everyday problems independently
  • Receptive to feedback and motivated to keep learning
  • Ability to safely lift and move merchandise as required
  • Availability to work 40 hours per week, including weekends and holidays as scheduled

Nice-to-haves

  • Interest in photography, the outdoors, design, motorcycles, bicycles, or travel
  • Experience selling technical products
  • Experience with inventory management or visual merchandising
  • Familiarity with Peak Design products
