Job summary

The Salvation Army Cambridge is seeking a part-time Store Clerk & Warehouse Worker to assist customers with donations, purchases, and inquiries while handling cash transactions with accuracy. You will support warehouse operations by sorting donations, loading and unloading, and helping with truck routes and deliveries.

Responsibilities include managing the cash drawer, answering questions, and maintaining organized displays and backroom areas.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; retail/store experience preferred.
• Two years of sorting, receiving, storing, loading and unloading materials in a warehouse or store setting or equivalent training.
• Proficiency with cash handling and operating a cash register.
• Ability to assist with donation processing and basic warehouse tasks.

Responsibilities

Job Title: Store Clerk & Warehouse WorkerLocation: Cambridge, MD Corps - Cambridge Family StorePosition Type: Part time without benefits (up to 19 hours weekly), non-exemptPay Rate: $15.00/hourThis position is responsible for:Assisting store customers in donating, selecting, and purchasing store items; operating and maintaining a cash register; responding to customers’ questions; maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the store displays and warehouse area; ensuring the security of store items and the cash register. Also, will assist with loading, unloading, and sorting donations; moving donations and other materials into the warehouse; assisting in the set-up, clean-up and breakdown of the warehouse.Key Responsibilities:Assists customers purchasing items from The Salvation Army store.Collect monies, count change, and prepare receipts; prepare and package purchased items; prepare and balance the cash drawer and run routine register printouts; may prepare and deliver bank deposits.Answers the store telephone in a tactful and courteous manner; assists customers by responding to questions and providing directions and/or general information; may schedule and record donation pick-ups.Load and fluff clothes in the bailer machine to secure a solid bail of clothing with wire; unload trucks of donated items being delivered to the warehouse.Monitor the warehouse entrances and dock area to deter theft.Inspect donated items briefly to ensure they can be used according to established policies and procedures.Prepare donation receipts for customers; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same.Maintain good relationships with donors to promote a favorable image of The Salvation Army.Unload donations from truck upon arrival at warehouse; distributes items to appropriate locations in the warehouse; load truck of items to be taken to the dump.Lift, carry, and/or haul donations into truck; pack items in truck in a manner that maximizes use of space, protects items from damage, and ensures safety.Ride in a Salvation Army truck on a scheduled route in order to pick-up donated items.Assist in navigating driver to destinations by reading a map and/or hand-written directions.Perform routine maintenance of the truck; checks fluid levels on a regular basis; and provides repair work, as needed.Physical Requirements and Working ConditionsWork requires the ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull heavy (over 50lbs.) materials, supplies, and equipment frequently.Heavy mobility duties are usually performed by combinations of standing, walking, climbing ladders or steps, bending, reaching, or transporting merchandise on frequent change basis relieved by fewer periods of sitting in a vehicle.Work is performed in a stockroom, warehouse, or store environment where there are discomforts associated with changes in weather.
