Job summary

The Salvation Army store in Corpus Christi, TX is seeking a Part-Time Store Clerk with benefits. You will assist customers with donations and purchases, operate the cash register, and help maintain clean, organized store displays and secure cash handling.

The Sorting Room duties include receiving and pricing donated items, maintaining order in the warehouse, and supporting pricing standards. High school diploma or GED preferred, with 1 year retail/warehouse experience encouraged.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Ring up sales and handle cash accurately, balance cash drawer and prepare receipts.
• Process sales records, tax forms, and vouchers; generate routine sales reports.
• Answer phones courteously; answer questions and direct customers as needed.
• Explain store policies and assist with pricing and purchasing questions.
• Receive, sort, and prepare donated items for display and sale.

Job Summary:

The Store Clerk function may include a regular shift as part of the daily workload. Assists store customers in donating, selecting, and purchasing store items; operates and maintains a cash register; responds to customers questions; maintains the cleanliness and orderliness of the store displays; ensures the security of store items and the cash register.

The Sorting Room function entails receiving, sorting, pricing, and preparing donated items for display in the store; determines suitability and pricing of items based on established standards; assists in maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the warehouse area.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assists customers purchasing items from The Salvation Army by ringing-up sales utilizing a cash register; collects monies, counts change, and prepares receipts; prepares and packages purchased items; prepares and balances the cash drawer and runs routine register print-outs; prepares and delivers bank deposits; ensures the security and accountability of all cash register funds and sales records in accordance with established operating procedures.
• Prepares, processes, and maintains various sales records, tax forms, and social service vouchers; prepares routine sales reports as directed.
• Answers the store telephone in a tactful and courteous manner; assists customers by responding to questions and providing directions and/or general information; may schedule and record donation pick-ups.
• Assists customers by explaining store policy and responding to questions regarding the pricing and/or purchasing of items; ensures that all customers visiting the store have a pleasant experience.
• Receives, inspects, and sorts donated items such as clothes, shoes, household items, bric-a-brack, etc. according to the category and condition.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Work requires the ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull heavy materials, supplies and equipment frequently. Heavy mobility duties are usually performed by combinations of standing, walking, climbing ladders or steps, bending, reaching, or transporting merchandise on frequent change basis relieved by fewer periods of sitting.
