Base pay range
$17.00/hr - $18.00/hr
OVERVIEW:
The Store Clerk provides support for operations across the store and ensure a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly, and efficient service to customers and co-workers at all times. The Store Clerk must be prepared and able to perform the duties as required by the needs of the business. All positions must strive to support the Go Green Community Fresh Market’s core values and goals, promote store programs and initiatives, and ensure adherence to all applicable health and safety regulations including food safety and regulatory duties required in the department.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Stocking:
- Perform general stocking duties on a daily basis including storing and stocking products in/on bins, pallets, shelves, racks, and refrigerators.
- Move, handle, and transport finished products, material, or supplies by using hand jacks, carts, and other means of transportation.
- Load, unload, and move heavy, bulky products.
- Replenish stock and goods on display shelves.
- Rotate products and goods.
- Remove expired products from the display.
- Ensure shelves are clean and neat.
- Follow safety policies and procedures, and encourage colleagues to do the same.
Courtesy Clerk:
- Answers customer questions and concerns and follows-up with appropriate personnel.
- Ensures customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
- Maintains knowledge of sales and promotions through listening actively in daily huddles.
- Uses conflict resolution skills to de-escalate customer complaints.
- Communicates with staff to keep the store free of hazardous spills.
- Assists customers with bags.
- Help customers navigate their way through the store.
- Keeps the work area clean, organized, and free of hazards (including backroom and shelves), and disposes of trash.
- Keeping the store front and parking lot clean and clutter free.
- Performs other tasks to enhance the shopping experience.
Cashiering:
- Operates the cash register accurately and scans all products.
- Answers customer questions and concerns and follows-up with appropriate personnel.
- Changes register tape and ribbons as necessary.
- Redeems promotional coupons, receives cash, checks, and EBT/EFT transactions; counts back change accurately, issues receipts.
- Ensures compliance with Local, State, and Federal guidelines regarding WIC And EBT (Link).
- Accurately tracks and documents Link Match distribution and redemption.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 1-3 years of experience working as a store clerk, inventory clerk, cashier, or a similar role.
- Experience in managing stock, handling deliveries, and ensuring proper storage of goods.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations.
- Basic understanding of mathematics for stock counting, price calculations, and report generation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Working knowledge of natural, organic, vegetarian and other specialty products/supplies, within the grocery retail field a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
- Ability to stand/sit for extended periods of time.
- Manual dexterity with hazardous equipment.
- Ability to use tools and equipment, including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work in close quarters with other people.
- Ability to see from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with depth perception, and field of vision
- Ability to work shifts varying in length and times, including nights, weekends and holidays
GENERAL SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
- Customer Service Skills: Ability to interact with customers in a friendly and professional manner, answering inquiries, handling complaints, and ensuring a positive shopping experience.
- Cash Handling and Accuracy: Proficient in operating cash registers, processing payments, making change accurately, and balancing cash drawers at the end of shifts.
- Attention to Detail: Ensuring accurate stock management, checking for discrepancies, verifying prices, and handling inventory records with care.
- Inventory Management: Knowledge of inventory systems to track stock levels, restock shelves, and maintain organized records of goods.
- Time Management: Ability to efficiently manage time during busy shifts, handling transactions, restocking, and addressing customer needs promptly.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to maintain an orderly store layout, manage product displays, and ensure shelves are tidy and well-stocked.
- Basic Math Skills: Comfort with basic mathematics to calculate totals, apply discounts, and handle transactions accurately.
- Communication Skills: Clear communication with customers, team members, and management, ensuring that instructions are understood and customer needs are met.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to resolve customer issues, discrepancies in transactions, or stock-related concerns promptly and professionally.
- Product Knowledge: Familiarity with store products, promotions, and pricing to effectively assist customers in making informed purchasing decisions.
