Job summary

The Salvation Army store is seeking a part-time cashier to assist customers, ring up sales, and maintain a clean, secure checkout area. You will handle cash, balance tills, and prepare deposits as needed, while promoting friendly service and store security.

Strong English communication and basic math skills are required. Prior retail experience is preferred, and the role may involve driving on occasion and stocking merchandise.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED; retail experience preferred.
• Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
• Ability to operate a cash register and perform basic math.
• Able to stand/walk, lift light items (<25 lbs) and drive daily as needed.

Job description

This position is responsible for:Assists store customers in donating, selecting, and purchasing store items; operates and maintains a cash register; responds to customer’s questions; maintains the cleanliness and orderliness of the store displays; ensures the security of store items and the cash register.Key Responsibilities:Assists customers purchasing items from The Salvation Army by ringing-up sales utilizing a cash register; collects monies, counts change and prepares receipts; prepares and packages purchased items; prepares and balances the cash drawer and runs routine register print-outs; prepares and delivers bank deposits; ensures the security and accountability of all cash register funds and sales records in accordance with established operating procedures.Maintains the neatness and security of the cash register area; ensures that forms, bags, etc. are adequately stocked.Places and arranges items in the store as directed; checks all store displays to ensure that items are maintained and displayed in a neat and orderly manner; rotates and/or rearranges stock as directed; returns items to the proper location after customer's have handled.Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:Ability to meet attendance requirementsAbility to read, write, and communicate the English languageAbility to operate a cash registerAbility to perform routine mathematical computations and count changeAbility to perform frequent walking and/or standing, kneeling, or squatting relieved by lesser periods of sitting or operating a vehiclePhysical ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull light objects (less than 25 lbs.)Work is performed in a normal store environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather.Work requires driving a vehicle daily with exposure to the outdoors where there are physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.Employee Benefits: Part-time with benefitsPaid Time OffSupplemental InsuranceHigh School diploma or G.E.D ANDexperience working in a retail store preferred ORAny equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.Equal Opportunity Employer: Veterans | Disabled
