Position Summary

The Retail Sales Associate is responsible for processing donated items, maintaining store and merchandise displays, and providing excellent customer service. The role includes operating the cash register, accepting donations, and acting in security/loss prevention capacities. The associate interacts with customers, donors, clients, and employees, maintaining a positive and professional image.

Essential Functions

• Operate equipment such as mouse, keyboard, computer, cell phone, and tablet.
• Operate a pallet jack and trash compactor.
• Unload, accept, sort, and tag donations from donors.

Primary Responsibilities

• Support the mission and vision of Goodwill Northern Michigan.
• Perform work safely, following all safety policies and procedures.
• Interact professionally with team members, clients, and customers.
• Respect diversity, including cultural, ethnic, gender differences, and individuals experiencing homelessness or with disabilities.
• Perform operational functions such as running the register, stocking shelves, assisting customers and donors, and accepting donations.
• Be knowledgeable of merchandise and pricing.
• Set up displays and advertising signs.
• Assist customers with merchandise requests and questions.
• Handle cashier duties, including transactions, refunds, and register balancing.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Assist with fitting rooms and merchandise rotation.
• Answer phones and make announcements as needed.
• Price textiles and wares, and meet production goals.
• Adhere to all policies and promote Goodwill positively.
• Follow safety protocols and report unsafe practices.
• Assist in training new staff and perform other duties as assigned.

Reports to: Store Manager, with guidance from Assistant Manager or Team Leads.

Supervises: No supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications: Retail experience is a plus.

• Basic math and cash handling skills.
• Understanding and acceptance of working with people with disabilities or barriers to employment.

Physical Requirements: Standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, and other physical activities as described.

Additional Requirements: Reliable transportation, willingness to work varied hours, and passing a background check.
