Job summary

Leonardo’s Marble & Granite in Wixom, MI is seeking a skilled Stone Fabrication & Finishing Technician to transform marble, granite, quartz and other stone into finished products according to project specs.

The role involves reading shop drawings, operating hand and power tools, polishing, finishing, quality control, and ensuring safety standards. Ideal candidates are detail-oriented, mechanically inclined and able to work in a fast-paced fabrication environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in stone fabrication, polishing, countertop installation, construction, manufacturing, or a related field is preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand measurements, drawings, and specifications; strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate and finish marble, granite, quartz, quartzite, porcelain, and other stone materials.
  • Read and interpret shop drawings, measurements, templates, and job specifications.
  • Cut, shape, grind, polish, and finish stone according to project requirements.
  • Perform sink cutouts, cooktop cutouts, faucet holes, edge profiles, seams, and other custom fabrication.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, polishing equipment, and other stone fabrication machinery.
  • Carefully handle, position, and secure stone slabs and finished pieces.
  • Verify measurements and dimensions before and throughout fabrication.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure it meets company quality standards.
  • Identify and report material defects, damage, or fabrication issues.
  • Maintain consistent quality and appearance across all finished products.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and OSHA guidelines.
  • Properly use required PPE and maintain a clean workspace.

Stone Fabrication & Finishing Technician

Leonardo’s Marble & Granite is looking for a skilled and dependable Stone Fabrication & Finishing Technician to join our fabrication team. This position is responsible for transforming marble, granite, quartz, quartzite, porcelain, and other stone materials into finished products according to project specifications.


The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, mechanically inclined, and takes pride in producing high-quality craftsmanship. The Stone Fabrication & Finishing Technician will work with a variety of hand and power tools to cut, shape, polish, edge, finish, and prepare stone for installation.


Responsibilities

Stone Fabrication


  • Fabricate and finish marble, granite, quartz, quartzite, porcelain, and other stone materials.

  • Read and interpret shop drawings, measurements, templates, and job specifications.

  • Cut, shape, grind, polish, and finish stone according to project requirements.

  • Perform sink cutouts, cooktop cutouts, faucet holes, edge profiles, seams, and other custom fabrication.

  • Operate hand tools, power tools, polishing equipment, and other stone fabrication machinery.

  • Carefully handle, position, and secure stone slabs and finished pieces.

  • Ensure all fabricated pieces meet required dimensions and specifications.


Polishing & Finishing


  • Polish edges and surfaces to achieve a consistent, high-quality finish.

  • Finish various edge profiles according to customer and project specifications.

  • Grind and smooth imperfections while maintaining the integrity of the material.

  • Inspect finished pieces for chips, scratches, cracks, uneven polishing, and other defects.

  • Complete final touch-ups and corrections before pieces are sent for installation.

  • Maintain consistent quality and appearance across all finished products.


Quality Control


  • Verify measurements and dimensions before and throughout fabrication.

  • Inspect completed work to ensure it meets company quality standards.

  • Identify and report material defects, damage, or fabrication issues.

  • Communicate any discrepancies or concerns to the fabrication manager or supervisor.

  • Minimize material waste through careful handling and fabrication practices.


Safety & Equipment Maintenance


  • Follow all company safety procedures and OSHA guidelines.

  • Properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe fabrication area.

  • Clean and maintain tools, equipment, and workstations.

  • Report damaged tools, equipment issues, or safety concerns to management.

  • Follow proper procedures for handling heavy stone and operating machinery.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


Requirements


  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • Previous experience in stone fabrication, polishing, countertop installation, construction, manufacturing, or a related field is preferred.

  • Experience working with marble, granite, quartz, quartzite, porcelain, or similar materials is a plus.

  • Ability to read and understand measurements, drawings, and specifications.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

  • Ability to safely operate hand tools and power tools.

  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn new equipment and fabrication techniques.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Reliable, punctual, and dependable.

  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced fabrication environment.

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods.

  • Must be able to bend, kneel, reach, push, pull, lift, and carry materials as required.

  • Must be comfortable working around water, stone dust, noise, and industrial equipment.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Previous experience fabricating or polishing natural or engineered stone.

  • Experience with wet polishers, grinders, routers, saws, or other stone fabrication equipment.

  • Experience creating and finishing custom edge profiles.

  • Experience with sink and cooktop cutouts.

  • Experience with stone seams and seam preparation.

  • Knowledge of different stone types and their fabrication requirements.

  • Previous countertop fabrication or installation experience.
