Reports to: Charge Nurse

Job Purpose: The State Tested Nurse Aide (STNA) provides direct care to residents under the supervision of licensed nurses. Responsibilities include assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and eating, while maintaining residents' independence and dignity. Additional duties are assigned by the Nursing Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assist residents with ADLs according to their care plans and preferences.
  2. Assist with mobility and transfers using appropriate techniques and equipment.
  3. Help residents with toileting and incontinence care, ensuring privacy and dignity.
  4. Serve meals and snacks, following dietary guidelines and preferences.
  5. Document care and observations accurately in residents' records.
  6. Communicate professionally and compassionately with residents and families.
  7. Report changes in residents' conditions promptly.
  8. Maintain residents' rooms and common areas following infection control policies.
  9. Participate in training and educational programs.
  10. Adhere to facility policies, the Nurse Practice Act, and regulations.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Nurse Aide certification in the state.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently or in a team.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods.
  • Flexible availability, including weekends and holidays.

Working Conditions: The role involves contact with residents who may have communicable diseases or behavioral issues. It may involve exposure to odors, sights, sounds, bodily fluids, and waste, often under stressful conditions requiring quick responses.

Physical Requirements: Must be capable of performing physical tasks including lifting, pushing, pulling, standing, walking, bending, and reaching for extended periods.
