Job summary

Brookwood Care Community in Cincinnati, OH is hiring a State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) to provide essential resident care in a nursing or long‑term care setting. You will assist with ADLs, mobility, feeding, and document care under the supervision of a licensed nurse, promoting safety, dignity, and quality of life.

Qualifications include a High School diploma and a current STNA certification. Prior healthcare experience is preferred but not required.

The State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) provides essential care and support to residents in a healthcare, long-term care, or assisted living facility. Under the supervision of a licensed nurse, the STNA assists residents with daily living activities, such as personal hygiene, mobility, and feeding, while ensuring their comfort and well-being. This role is vital in promoting resident safety, dignity, and quality of life through compassionate and attentive care.

Key Responsibilities
Resident Care
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and oral hygiene.
  • Help residents with mobility, including turning, positioning, transferring, and ambulating using assistive devices as needed.
  • Feed residents or assist with meals, ensuring proper nutrition and hydration, and monitor food and fluid intake.
  • Monitor and report changes in residents’ physical, emotional, or behavioral conditions to the nursing staff.
Vital Signs and Monitoring
  • Measure and record residents' vital signs, such as temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration, as directed by nursing staff.
  • Assist with monitoring residents’ skin conditions, reporting any signs of skin breakdown or pressure sores.
  • Assist with weight checks, intake and output monitoring, and other health-related measurements.
Documentation
  • Accurately document care provided and residents' responses to care in the facility’s electronic health record (EHR) or paper charts.
  • Maintain records of residents' food and fluid intake, toileting habits, and other observations as required.
  • Report any concerns or incidents to the supervising nurse and complete required documentation.
Resident Safety and Comfort
  • Ensure residents’ safety by adhering to facility protocols and infection control guidelines.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and comfortable living environment for residents.
  • Practice proper hand hygiene, use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required, and follow all safety procedures.
Emotional Support and Resident Interaction
  • Provide compassionate care and emotional support to residents, engaging in conversation and offering comfort as needed.
  • Respect residents' dignity, privacy, and personal preferences, and promote their independence wherever possible.
  • Assist residents with social and recreational activities, encouraging participation to enhance their quality of life.
Team Collaboration
  • Work collaboratively with nursing staff, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care for residents.
  • Participate in care plan meetings and contribute to the development of individualized care plans.
  • Assist with transportation of residents to appointments, therapy sessions, or activities within the facility as needed.
Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certification: Current and active State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) certification.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a healthcare, long-term care, or assisted living setting is preferred but not required. New graduates are welcome to apply.
Skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate and patient-centered approach to care.
