Job summary

Ogunquit Playhouse in Ogunquit, Maine seeks an experienced Stitcher for the productions of Small Town & Mary Poppins. The position runs through November 8, 2026, with a potential extension to work on Mary Poppins at The Music Hall in Portsmouth, NH under a separate contract.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented with excellent cutting and sewing skills, capable of machine and hand sewing, and able to travel to NYC for fittings. The role is W2, $20/hr plus overtime and housing provided.

• Assist in shop builds and load-in/strike.
• Maintain garments during the run and perform repairs as needed.
• Assist in maintaining costume/shoe stock and assist with inventory.

Ogunquit Playhouse, Ogunquit, Maine seeks an experienced Stitcher for our upcoming productions of Small Town & Mary Poppins.

Seeking candidates with immediate availability to work through to the end of the season, November 8, 2026.

Potential extension opportunity to continue work on Mary Poppins at The Music Hall in Portsmouth, NH. This would be a separate contract with a mid-December end date.

Ideal Candidate: Must be detail-oriented and remain focused in a fast-paced working environment. Excellent cutting and sewing skills are a must.

Job Duties/Expectations include (but are not limited to):

• Proficiency in costume alterations such as pants hems, waist darts, darning, and sleeve alterations.
• Sew, by both machine and hand, costumes assigned by the Assistant Costume Shop Supervisor.
• Label costumes and undergarments as assigned.
• Attend fittings to assist and take notes as needed.
• May travel to NYC for a few days to assist in costume fittings, dates TBD.
• Assist in shop builds.
• Assist in costume load-in/strike by carrying costumes, shoes, and hats to transport them to and from the theater.
• Sort costume rental packages upon arrival and check in garments based on look lists.
• Assist with return and restoration of rental package as directed by First Hand or Assistant Costume Shop Manager
• Assist in maintaining all garments during the run of a show and assist in necessary repairs and upkeep.
• Maintain knowledge of costume/shoe stock and assist in pulling items when necessary.
• Communicate with team to foster and maintain a positive and productive work environment.
• Have a team player attitude and recognize that every day will require flexibility with all of the unknowns of live theater.
• Job requires ability to sit/stand for long periods of time, and bend, stoop, or kneel while assisting actors, staff, and designer in execution of duties as assigned.
• Job requires ability to lift, carry, move costumes and necessary equipment up and down stairs in varied lighting conditions.
• May be required to cover wardrobe track should a wardrobe assistant call out last-minute.
• Unconventional hours may be required.

Position is a W2, $20/hr plus O/T and housing included.

Ogunquit Playhouse will now be offering Health insurance to all employees who are with the company for 120+ consecutive days and work at least 30 hours weekly. Ogunquit Playhouse will cover 75% of employee’s company sponsored Health insurance premium. Dental and Vision insurance will also be available at the employee’s expense. Employees who work the entire Ogunquit Playhouse’s entire season will also accrue Earned Paid Leave up to 40 hours. Eligibility is based on the length of the contract. Shortening the length of that contract may affect eligibility.
