Job Summary
The Development Intern's main responsibility is to support the Development team by assisting in the ministry of donor stewardship. This role will help cultivate a desire to learn professional skills and serve in the ministry of fundraising and administration.
Ministerial Character
The Chaplain is the visible principle and foundation of unity at the University Catholic Center (UCC), which the Bishop has entrusted to him. He makes Christ’s mission present and enduring at the UCC. In order to fulfill his mission, the Chaplain employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them his mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.
Positions employed at the University Catholic Center help to extend the ministry of the Chaplain in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Chaplain in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church.
Essential Job Duties
- Hours will be ~5 hours per week, with certain periods of the year (Oct/Nov, Jan, April/May) offering an opportunity for additional hours
- This person will report directly to the Development Manager
Donor Stewardship (80%)
- Writing thank you notes to supporters
- Calling donors to thank them for their support
- Filming short video thank you notes
- Coordinating with student volunteers
- Participating in donor meetings or fundraising events
- Contact donors by email and phone (if necessary) in order to successfully update giving information
Count (10%)
- Work with the team to accurately count the UCC’s offertories
Other duties and tasks, (10%) as assigned periodically
- Largest separate project with be bulk mailings in December and January
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of the teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Knowledge of fundraising, marketing, and public relations.
- Ability to maintain donor confidentiality.
- Ability to work collaboratively with the Development team and the rest of the staff to accomplish weekly tasks.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and utilize effective time management techniques.
- Ability to carry out multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Ability to follow instructions in verbal or written format.
- Ability to effectively use standard office communication technology (Slack and Gmail).
- Ability to both independently organize and prioritize work with little supervision.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Must be a current student at UT Austin for the 2026-2027 school year.
Experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Intermediate proficiency in MS Word and Excel, as well as database management (CRM) platforms.
Language
- English (proficient in conversing, reading, and writing).
Catholic Requirement
- Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing.
Licenses/Certifications
- Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period.
Working Conditions
- Remote Opportunity: this role offers the option to work remotely after on-site training. There is also access to dedicated office space.
- Schedule flexibility: This position averages around 5 hours per week (including Summer), but may be busier during fundraising appeal seasons.
- Weekly check-in with Development team.
- All employees of the University Catholic Center are engaged in ministry and closely tied to the Chaplain in the exercise of his ministry and obligations to the Church.
- The UCC is an at-will employer.
- All buildings and vehicles owned by the UCC are tobacco-free.
- Will be exposed to religious ceremonies, conduct, and speech, including Roman Catholic prayer and liturgical celebrations.
- Will be required to adhere to established dress codes and conduct standards.
Compensation
- This position’s compensation will be $14/hr.
