Job summary

M Social Sunnyvale, part of Millennium Hotels & Resorts, is seeking a Steward to maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen and service areas while supporting Culinary and F&B teams.

You will wash and sanitize dishware, maintain safe, stocked workspaces, and assist with banquet and catering operations to ensure smooth service.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Food Handler Certification required or ability to obtain upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Wash, sanitize, and store dishes, glassware, silverware, and utensils.
• Operate commercial dishwashing equipment safely and efficiently.
• Maintain clean, stocked stewarding areas for service.
• Clean kitchen floors, walls, prep areas, and storage rooms.
• Assist kitchen staff with transporting food and supplies.
• Support banquet and catering events with setup and breakdown.
• Follow HACCP, sanitation, OSHA, and local health rules.
• Use PPE and report safety hazards promptly.
• Work with Culinary, Banquets, Restaurant, Engineering, and Housekeeping teams.

About the Role:

As our Steward, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of all kitchen and food service areas while supporting the Culinary and Food & Beverage teams. You will ensure all dishes, cookware, utensils, equipment, and workspaces are cleaned and maintained to the highest standards, helping create a safe and efficient environment that supports exceptional dining experiences.

This role is ideal for someone who is dependable, detail-oriented, enjoys working behind the scenes, and takes pride in maintaining a clean and organized workplace.

Your Impact – Operational Support

You will play an essential role in the success of the hotel's culinary operation by ensuring the kitchen is always clean, organized, and fully equipped for service. Your dedication to sanitation, teamwork, and efficiency directly supports food quality, operational excellence, and guest satisfaction.

What You'll Be Doing

Stewarding Operations

• Wash, sanitize, and store dishes, glassware, silverware, pots, pans, kitchen utensils, and service equipment
• Operate commercial dishwashing equipment safely and efficiently
• Maintain an adequate supply of clean kitchen equipment for restaurant, banquet, and catering operations
• Keep dishwashing and stewarding areas clean, organized, and stocked throughout each shift
• Empty trash and recycling containers and maintain waste disposal areas

Kitchen & Facility Cleaning

• Clean and sanitize kitchen floors, walls, worktables, food preparation areas, storage rooms, walk-in coolers, and loading dock areas
• Perform deep-cleaning assignments according to departmental schedules
• Clean kitchen exhaust hoods, shelving, equipment, and other assigned areas
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment for all employees

Kitchen Support

• Assist culinary staff by transporting food, supplies, and equipment as needed
• Support banquet and catering events with setup, breakdown, and equipment organization
• Receive and organize deliveries following proper storage and rotation procedures
• Restock cleaning supplies and notify supervisors when inventory is low

Safety & Compliance

• Follow all HACCP, food safety, sanitation, OSHA, and local health department regulations
• Properly handle cleaning chemicals and use required personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Report maintenance concerns, equipment malfunctions, or safety hazards promptly
• Follow hotel security procedures and company policies

Team Collaboration

• Work closely with Culinary, Banquets, Restaurant, Engineering, and Housekeeping teams
• Respond promptly to operational requests during busy service periods
• Assist other departments with cleaning and support duties as business needs require

Technical / Role-Specific Requirements

• Previous stewarding, dishwashing, restaurant, or hotel experience preferred but not required
• Ability to safely operate commercial dishwashing equipment
• Basic knowledge of sanitation and food safety procedures
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
• Food Handler Certification required or ability to obtain upon hire

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in a hotel, resort, restaurant, or banquet operation preferred
• Experience supporting high-volume kitchens is a plus
• Familiarity with HACCP and commercial kitchen sanitation standards is beneficial
• Bilingual abilities are a plus

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift
• Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds
• Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and perform repetitive physical tasks
• Comfortable working in hot, humid, and fast-paced kitchen environments

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered
