Job summary

Augusta University seeks a Sterile Supplies Specialist to sterilize and process instruments for dental clinics across campus. You will inspect, sort, disassemble/reassemble, clean, package, and store sterile supplies, and support ADEX exams and mock boards as needed.

Under supervision, you will maintain daily inventory, operate computer scanners and labeling systems, and ensure infection control meets federal, state, and university standards.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required with knowledge of sterilization processes.
• Preferred: Grad from a Dental Assistant Program and/or Sterile Process Technician Program or an Associate's Degree with 2 years of sterilization experience.
• Knowledge of dental instruments and equipment; familiarity with infection control protocols.

Responsibilities

• INVENTORY: Maintain daily inventory control of all instruments; generate inventory sheets.
• INSTRUMENTS: Dispense and collect instruments to/from clinics; ensure proper cassette instructions; sterilize as needed.
• INFECTION CONTROL: Maintain highest quality infection control; operate sterilizers; perform biological monitoring.
• INVENTORY CONTROL: Use computer systems/scanners for labeling and tracking; create barcode labels.
• ROOM MAINTENANCE: Keep central sterilization rooms clean and organized; perform routine cleaning.
• GUIDELINES/PROTOCOLS: Follow PPE and infection control guidelines; report incidents; assist during emergencies.
• OTHER: Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Job Summary

The Sterile Supplies Specialist is responsible for the sterilization and processing of supplies and instruments for distribution. Responsible for inspecting, sorting, disassembly/reassembly, manual and mechanical cleaning, biological processes, equipment operation, packaging, sterilizing, storing and distribution of sterile supplies. Work is performed under direct supervision and is reviewed by observation of results obtained. Also required to work ADEX (CRDTS) exams and mock boards, as well as, other special board certifications exercises throughout the year as needed requiring weekend work up to approximately 4-6 times per year.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

INVENTORY: MAINTAIN DAILY INVENTORY CONTROL OF ALL INSTRUMENTS:

Generate inventory sheets for dental faculty, residents, and students.

Identify the need for repair, provide preventive maintenance for instruments, and hand pieces.

Assist with the periodic inventory of supplies and instruments.

INSTRUMENTS: DISPENSE AND COLLECT ALL INSTRUMENTS TO AND FROM DISPENSARIES/CLINICS:

Ensure proper instructions are supplied within each cassette.

Identify the need for repair, provide preventive maintenance for instruments, and hand pieces.

Distribute appropriate instruments to dental dispensaries accurately and efficiently. Dispense and sterilize instruments for board candidates.

INFECTION CONTROL: ENSURE THAT THE HIGHEST QUALIFY OF INFECTION CONTROL IS MAINTAINED:

Operating sterilizers and conducting procedures for testing (Bowie Dick, Biological monitoring)

INVENTORY CONTROL: Operate computer system/scanners for inventory control, create labels, maintain forms, and create barcode labels

ROOM MAINTENANCE: Maintain all rooms associated with central sterilization, conduct scheduled cleaning of wall floors, counters, equipment, and conduct daily cleaning of assigned work area.

GUIDELINES/PROTOCOLS: Follow all published guidelines regarding personal protective gear and clinical infection control protocol established by Federal, State, Augusta University, or Dental College of Georgia policies. This includes but is not limited to proper disposal of syringes, needles, scalpel blades, proper handling of contaminated items and proper disposal of hazardous materials. Follow the organizations incident reporting protocol in case of medical emergency. Be prepared to perform certain procedures until professional help is available.

OTHER: Perform other job duties as assigned by Management.

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED from a recognized State or Federal accredited organization with knowledge of sterilization processes.

Preferred Qualifications

Graduation from a Dental Assistant Program and/or graduation from a Sterile Process Technician Program OR Associate's Degree from an accredited college/ or university with 2 years¿ Sterilization experience.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: M-F (Occasional weekends 4-6 times per year)

11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. (with Shift Differential)

Pay Band: B2

Salary: Minimum $15.77/hour

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
