Job Description
General Summary

Under general supervision, perform team leader responsibilities in processes to decontaminate, prepare, sterilize, store and issue medical/surgical instruments, supplies and equipment in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures.

Principal Responsibilities And Tasks
  • Assist Manager or Supervisor in determining work priorities, ensuring all tasks are accomplished in a timely manner by monitoring and directing daily work activities of Central Sterile processing personnel.
  • Monitor department protocols as part of the quality assurance program by auditing daily work processes and procedures, and making appropriate corrections when necessary.
  • Observe daily practices, identify issues, correct them, and provide training or retraining as needed.
  • Assign work and priorities to sterile processing personnel to maintain efficient workflow.
  • Assist with orientation and training of new personnel, scrub techs, students, and other staff as directed.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies, instruments, and equipment to meet department demands.
  • Establish and maintain courteous relationships with patients, visitors, co-workers, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare team members.
  • Support sterile processing activities to ensure tasks are completed on time and according to policies.
  • Modify work practices based on industry trends and standards.
  • Enforce safety standards throughout the sterilization process in compliance with regulations and standards.
  • Coordinate and assist with endoscope management across UMMS.
  • Participate in training programs, including CPR and safety training, for professional growth.
  • Maintain certification through IAHCSMM with 12 hours of ongoing education annually.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience as Surgical Technician (minimum 2 years OR experience) or Sterile Processing Technician (certified through IAHCSMM with 2 years CSP experience).
  • Knowledge of PC and database systems or ability to learn within one year.
  • Effective communication skills for working with clinical staff and inventory management.
