Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a part-time Sterile Processing Tech at the AHCMG Surgery Center in Milwaukee, WI. You will sterilize instruments, assemble sets, and ensure infection control.

The role offers a Monday–Friday 12:00–17:00 schedule with no on-call, holidays, or weekend work. A High School diploma is required; no prior experience is necessary. Competitive benefits are provided.

  • Processes all reusable medical/surgical items for issue per policy.
  • Sterilizes instruments and equipment per guidelines.
  • Prepares and inspects patient care equipment for re-issue.
  • Inspects instruments/equipment for proper function.
  • Performs biological indicator tests on steam sterilizers.
  • Assembles instrument sets per department protocols.
  • Distributes sterile equipment and notifies recalls.
  • Restocks surgery unit with supplies.
  • Maintains environmental standards in Central Processing.
  • Lifts and moves items using proper technique.

Schedule Details/Additional Information

Part-time, Monday - Friday flexible schedule, typically 1200-1700. No call, holidays or weekends.

Pay Range

$20.80 - $31.20

Major Responsibilities
  • Processes all reusable medical/surgical items for issue according to departmental and infection control policy and procedures.
  • Sterilizes instruments and equipment according to manufacturer's recommendations and infection control guidelines. Completes thorough cleaning of surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Processes patient care equipment for re-issue. Inspects patient care equipment for cleanliness and proper functioning.
  • Inspects surgical instruments and equipment for proper functioning.
  • Performs biological indicator tests on the Steam sterilizers and the Sterrad Unit and Steris One.
  • Assembles instrument sets according to department protocols. Packages instrument sets for sterilizing.
  • Distributes sterile equipment to appropriate areas. Communicates and notifies all personnel for the recall of sterilized items.
  • Restocks surgery unit with medical/surgical supplies. Maintains established supply levels in the Central Processing area.
  • Revises department policies to meet the department standards. Observes environmental standards for the Central Processing area.
  • Lifts, carries and/or pushes/pull various items (bags, boxes, carts, etc.) while utilizing proper technique.

  • Good interpersonal communication skills. Requires the ability to receive and present information with proper conduct and tact.
Physical Requirements And Working Conditions
  • Must be able to stand, walk, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders on a daily basis.
  • Must be able to:
  • lift up to 15 lbs. from floor to overhead
  • lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist
  • lift and carry up to 50 lbs. at waist height a reasonable distance
  • Must be able to:
  • push/pull with 20 lbs. of force
  • Position requires repetitive use of feet (i.e., heat sealer, sonic cleaner).
  • Must have functional speech, vision, touch, and hearing.
  • May be exposed to chemical hazards; therefore, protective clothing must be worn as necessary.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
