Job summary

Advocate Health in Downers Grove, IL seeks a part-time Surgical Supply Technician to maintain and reorder supplies for the Operating Room and Anesthesia Work Room. The role collaborates with the Purchasing and Receiving Department to ensure timely deliveries and optimal stock levels, while upholding safety and organization standards.

The position requires 3-5 years’ hospital supply experience and a current CPR certification, with a Monday–Friday schedule and 20 hours per week.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years’ experience maintaining and ordering of supplies.
  • Previous hospital experience preferred.
  • CPR certification.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains inventory systems for surgical services.
  • Works closely with the Purchasing and Receiving Department ensuring orders and deliveries.
  • Collaborates with the purchasing department on supply acquisitions.
  • Unpack and Transport of supplies to Surgery and Anesthesia Work room.
  • Follows up with vendors to ensure timely delivery.
  • Maintains PAR levels of stock and coordinates with service line team leaders for consignment PAR levels based on patient volumes.
  • May have to arrange for courier to urgently pick up or deliver surgical products.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and organized work environment.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Maintains inventory systems for surgical services
  • 1)Works closely with the Purchasing and Receiving Department ensuring orders and deliveries.
  • 2)Collaborates with the purchasing department on supply acquisitions.
  • 3)Collaborates with purchasing to find alternative sources for back ordered items.
  • 4)Unpack and Transport of supplies to Surgery and Anesthesia Work room.
  • 5)Follows up with vendors to ensure timely delivery.
  • 6)Collaborates with service line team leaders for consignment PAR levels based on patient volumes.
  • 7)May have to arrange for courier to urgently pick up or deliver surgical products.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • 1)Maintains clean, neat work areas.
  • 2)Store and displays supplies so they are neat, accessible and easily identifiable.
  • 3)All paper work is organized and filed appropriately.
  • 4)Cleaning of equipment, and defrosting of bone freezer as necessary.
  • 5)Room rounding and maintenance of log book.
  • 6)Communication of all ECRI Management recalls.
  • 7)Broken equipment/repair maintenance.
  • 8)Copier equipment/printer maintenance.
  • 9)OR locker room management.
  • 10)Cooling vests and lead apron management.
  • Maintains tracks and reorders supplies utilizing both manual and computerized systems.
  • 1)Lawson ordering and processing for anesthesia and OR supplies as needed.
  • 2)Surgi-track coordination.
  • 3)Process bill only (pre-IPM) and (post-IPM).
  • 4)Informs staff of new item, back orders and deletion of supplies.
  • 5)Maintains knowledge of new supplies.
  • 6)Ensures supplies are put away properly.
  • 7)Purchase order issuance for non-stock.
  • Provides support to the Surgical Services Staff.
  • 1)Collaborates with the Business Manager & OR Manager to obtain the most competitive capitol request quotes prior to placing orders.
  • 2)Partners with Surgical Team Leaders to maintain compliance with conforming products when evaluating new products.
  • 3)Demonstrates adaptability and flexibility for change.
  • 4)Demonstrates reliability for attendance and punctuality.
  • 5)Maintains proper PAR levels of stock in the Anesthesia Work Room.
  • 6)Obtains supplies and Instrumentation for the staff as needed.
  • 7)Supports open communication; and actively participates in staff meetings.
  • 8) Collaborates with Sterile Processing in acquiring supplies as needed.
  • 9)Observes department and hospital policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • 10)May have to transport specimens to pathology.
  • Participates in cost savings opportunities.
  • 1)Pursues cost savings opportunities.
  • 2)Utilizes the buying agreements in product selections.
  • 3)Participates in Value analysis team.
  • 4)Participates in QI efforts.
  • 5)Works with vendors in returning or exchanging overstock items.
Education/Experience Required:

3-5 years’ previous experience maintaining and ordering of supplies. Previous hospital experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to follow directions.

  • Working independently.
  • Medical terminology.
  • High school diploma.
  • Current CPR.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Ability to transport supplies and specimens to all areas of the hospital. Contact with blood/body fluids. TB test yearly. Hepatitis vaccine. Ability to respond quickly to emergent situations. Strength and dexterity to handle equipment. Heavy lifting up to 35 lbs.
