Join to apply for the Sterile Processing Technician - SPD role at The University of Vermont Health Network - Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital

Primary: 2:30pm-11:00pm; Secondary: 11:00am-7:30pm & 10:30pm-7:00am

The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for decontamination, preparation, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instrumentation and equipment. The role is critical for infection prevention, following guidelines from AAMI, AORN, CDC, SGNA, and hospital policies to ensure patient and staff safety.

Key qualities include a strong work ethic, organization, teamwork, independence, excellent communication, quick task performance, and attention to detail. The technician will have extensive contact with people and interruptions, requiring good problem-solving skills under high-volume, deadline-driven environments.

The physical environment may involve high-pressure steam, mechanical, chemical, electrical, bio-waste, and bodily fluids, with conditions like noise, odors, and temperature variations. The technician may be assigned to the main Sterile Processing Department or the Ambulatory Surgery ENDO unit.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Certification for CRCST within 18 months of hire
  • Certification for CER within 2 years of hire
  • Experience in sterile processing preferred, with priority given to those with perioperative or environmental services experience
  • Basic Medical Terminology
  • Basic computer skills

Training/competency in attending to the needs of patients of all ages is required as applicable.
