Job Summary and Qualifications

The Central Sterile Technician prepares surgical case carts, handles decontamination, assembly, and sterilization of supplies and instruments, complying with hospital standards under supervision.

  • Operate sterilization equipment like cart washers, sonic cleaners, sterilizers, and heat-sealing units.
  • Understand chemicals and disinfectants used in the department.
  • Assemble trays and peel packs, identify contents, indicators, lot control, wrapping, labeling, and sterilization methods.
  • Transport case carts and instrumentation between OR and Sterile Processing.
  • Maintain cleanliness and supplies at workstations.
Qualifications Needed
  • Sterile Processing Certification (CRCST or CSPDT) within 18 months of start date.
  • Knowledge of hospital equipment, supplies, surgical instruments, and medical terminology.
  • Ability to react effectively to emergency requests.
  • Current BLS certification or within 30 days of hire.
  • One year of Central Sterile Processing experience preferred.
