Responsibilities
- Utilize approved PPE as appropriate to decommission and decontaminate surgical/clinic items and instrumentation.
- Retrieve soiled supplies/equipment from soiled holding areas from various departments throughout the hospital per schedule and as needed.
- Sort, disassemble, select and perform the correct process to decontaminate items; clean, maintain, and operate a variety of decontamination equipment.
- Select appropriate High Level Disinfection method (manual or automatic) for heat sensitive instruments, equipment or flexible endoscopes; document receipt and work on tracking software.
- Inspect and assemble all equipment, instruments, scopes, and instrument sets following product recipe; verify items are functional, free of debris.
- Identify and place appropriate internal indicator as required; maintain a clean and organized work area at all times.
- Interpret package labeling to select appropriate sterilization method and approved cycle (Steam, Low Temperature, or other); inspect packages to ensure indicators and labels are affixed.
- Load sterilizer as appropriate to ensure cycle completion; includes biological testing including routine sterilizer testing (biological monitoring, leak test, etc.).
- Escalate positive results as appropriate; remove and inspect items from sterilizer using approved methods to preserve package integrity.
- Maintain proper body mechanics when moving equipment/supplies up to 50 lbs and autoclave carts up to 200 lbs; stand for long periods; attend regularly; learn new skill sets quickly and perform consistently with accuracy.
- Communicate effectively with a courteous and professional attitude; work within a team environment; multi‑task as critical; work schedule as defined with overtime as required; perform related duties as required.
Employee Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent. Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (0.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.

Ability to stand for long periods of time, regular and prompt attendance, ability to learn new skill sets quickly, ability to communicate effectively, ability to work within a team environment, ability to multi‑task, ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.
