- JOB SUMMARY
- Responsible for cleaning, sterilizing and assembling equipment, supplies and instruments.
- DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Overall performance rating of below indicated essential job duties:
- Cleans, sterilizes and assembles equipment, supplies and instruments.
- Decontaminates surgical instruments, container syringes, surgical linen and equipment.
- Prepares packs of supplies and instruments.
- Prepares control system for supplies processed.
- Places sterilized items in proper storage area after processing.
- Performs other assigned duties as needed.
- Good mechanical aptitude, with ability to troubleshoot and work independently.
- Must have the ability to identify all surgical instruments immediately to respond to emergency situations which may develop in the Operating Room.
- Must demonstrate competence in the assembly and preparation of complex instrument trays for a variety of surgical cases and do so in a minimal amount of time during urgent or emergency procedures. (10-20 min. maximum).
- EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS/OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum requirement:
- High school graduate or GEDequivalent.
- Operating Room Technician Program Completion, Sterile Processing Program Completion, or one year post operating room/central service experience
- Obtain Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) and/or Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA), (CRCST) within one year of hire.
- Preferred qualifications:
- HSPA Certification of Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) within one year of hire

- Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals
- Occasionally exposed to risk of radiation
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
