Job summary

Rhode Island Hospital is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to identify, inspect, assemble and sterilize instruments and trays under supervision. The role includes monitoring sterilizers, packaging procedures, and training new staff while maintaining inventory control and safety standards.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and preferred Sterile Processing Certification with 3–6 months related experience.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate or equivalent with the ability to read, write and speak fluent English.
• Sterile Processing Certification through the Health Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or its equivalent is preferred.
• Three to six months of related work experience in decontamination, instrumentation, or stock room functions.

Responsibilities

• Ensures proper decontamination of surgical instruments, syringes, and equipment to clean, identify and inspect.
• Processes procedure trays, instrument sets, and orthopedic sets through decontamination per procedures.
• Performs leak tests and decontamination for various endoscopes per procedures.
• Utilizes detergents, disinfectants, and washers following standard precautions with minimal errors.
• Assembles and wraps instrument equipment trays following established procedures.
• Labels and initials all assembled trays with quality control monitors placed accurately.
• Operates sterilization equipment (steam, prevac, EPS Scope Processor) per QA procedures.
• Performs biological monitoring and BowieDick tests daily as recommended by manufacturers.
• Maintains inventory levels and supports training of new personnel in the department.
