Job summary

Atrium Health in High Point, NC is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to support the decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, and sterilization of operating room instruments. This full-time position runs 3 PM–11 PM with 40 hours per week.

Responsibilities include maintaining accurate sterilization records, delivering case carts to the OR, and participating in surge plans. Requires a high school diploma or GED and familiarity with sterilization equipment.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Experience operating sterilization equipment preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Operates department machinery and promptly reports issues to the Instrument Processing Supervisor or Lead Instrument Technician.
  • Performs manual and/or automated decontamination of instruments.
  • Inspects instruments to ensure cleanliness and proper functionality.
  • Assembles instruments into containers according to count sheets.
  • Packages instruments according to manufacturer's instructions.
  • Performs sterilization and verifies adequacy of the sterilization process.
  • Maintains documentation of sterilization processes.
  • Stores sterile containers in identified location.
  • Assembles case carts according to the picklist and delivers to the OR.
  • Participates in the department's weekday surge plan and weekend call.
  • Assists other team members as needed.
  • Protects self, coworkers, and facility by following policies and procedures concerning the prevention of spreading blood borne and or airborne contaminates/diseases.

Essential Functions
  • Operates all department machinery and promptly reports issues to the Instrument Processing Supervisor or Lead Instrument Technician.
  • Performs manual and/or automated decontamination of instruments.
  • Inspects instruments to ensure cleanliness and proper functionality.
  • Assembles instruments into containers according to count sheets.
  • Packages instruments according to manufacturer's instructions.
  • Performs sterilization and verifies adequacy of the sterilization process.

  • Ability to operate equipment such as the steam sterilizer, low temperature sterilizers, ultrasonic washers, and washer decontaminators
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Proficient communication skills
  • Knowledge of instrument tracking software
