Job summary

Atrium Health is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician at Hugh Chatham. The role involves operating sterilization equipment, decontamination and packaging of instruments, and delivering case carts to the OR. Monday through Friday shift with weekend call.

High school diploma or GED required; sterile processing experience preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and instrument-tracking software is beneficial for maintaining accurate documentation and workflow tracking in a busy hospital

• Performs sterilization and verifies adequacy of the process.
• Maintains documentation of sterilization processes.
• Stores sterile containers in identified location.
• Assembles case carts and delivers to the OR.
• Participates in weekday surge plan and weekend call.
• Assists team members as needed.
• Follows policies to prevent spreading infections.

Shift: M-F 11am-730pm

Essential Functions

• Operates all department machinery and promptly reports issues to the Instrument Processing Supervisor or Lead Instrument Technician.
• Performs manual and/or automated decontamination of instruments.
• Inspects instruments to ensure cleanliness and proper functionality.
• Assembles instruments into containers according to count sheets.
• Packages instruments according to manufacturer's instructions.
• Performs sterilization and verifies adequacy of the sterilization process.
• Maintains documentation of sterilization processes.
• Stores sterile containers in identified location.
• Assembles case carts according to the picklist and deliver to the OR.
• Participates in the department's weekday surge plan and weekend call.
• Assists other team members as needed.
• Protects self, coworkers, and facility by following policies and procedures concerning the prevention of spreading blood borne and or airborne contaminates/diseases.

• Ability to operate equipment such as the steam sterilizer, low temperature sterilizers, ultrasonic washers, and washer decontaminators
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
• Proficient communication skills
• Knowledge of instrument tracking software
