Job Overview

Under general supervision of the Sterile Processing Supervisor or Educator, the Sterile Processing Technician II (SPT) is responsible for decontaminating, assembling, sterilizing, and distributing reusable surgical and clinical instrumentation, following department and manufacturer guidelines. Operates sterilization equipment, maintains documentation, and ensures quality assurance.

Essential Duties

1. Assemble and package surgical instrument sets following protocols and manufacturer IFU, checking functionality and cleanliness.
2. Disassemble, manually wash, decontaminate, and load instruments into automated washers.
3. Operate sterilization and disinfection equipment, maintaining documentation and troubleshooting as needed.
4. Distribute sterile instrumentation, maintain inventory, and ensure proper stock rotation and quality assurance.
5. Coordinate with departments to ensure efficient process flow and assist in training other technicians.
6. Troubleshoot equipment and instrument issues, communicate with OR and external vendors.
7. Prepare loads, operate sterilization equipment, and inspect packages for sterilization indicators.
8. Adhere to all SPD policies, procedures, and SOPs.
9. Assist in case cart preparation and inventory management.
10. Document processes and use tracking systems like Censitrac.
11. Provide guidance or training to Sterile Processing Technician I as needed.
12. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of a recognized Sterile Processing or Surgical Technician program, or at least three years of experience in sterile processing.
• Minimum one year of sterile processing experience.
• Basic computer skills, including Windows OS.
• Ability to operate sterilization and cleaning equipment.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.

Preferred Qualifications

• Additional technical training or certification, such as a Medical Assistant Diploma or Certificate.

Certifications and Licenses

• Current certification as a Sterile Processing Technician (HSPA, CBSPD), Surgical Tech (CST), or equivalent, maintained through renewal.
• Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) or obtain within 30 days of hire.

The hourly rate ranges from $26.39 to $44.88. The role is full-time, entry level, and part of the healthcare industry at hospitals and healthcare facilities.
