Trinity Health in Muskegon, MI seeks a Sterile Processing Technician II to support decontamination, assembly, packaging and sterilization of instruments for hospital and affiliated facilities.

You will maintain efficient case cart flow, ensure proper cleaning, packaging, sterilization, and adherence to infection control policies while supporting endoscope processing and instrument storage. Certification required; healthcare environment experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum: High School diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate from a sterile processing program.
• 1 year of experience in Sterile Processing department.
• Certification in Central Sterile Processing through CBSPD or HSPA.

Responsibilities

• Identify and decontaminate instruments using washer/decontaminator equipment and proper hand-washing techniques.
• Assemble instruments ensuring cleanliness and function.
• Prepare instruments for sterilization with proper packaging and wrapping techniques.
• Sterilize instruments by loading carts and operating steam sterilizers.
• Handle sterilized instruments for storage and distribution.
• Maintain efficient processing flow and anticipate requests from healthcare providers.
• Maintain GI unit environment, endoscopic equipment, accessories and supplies per infection control guidelines.
• Ensure endoscopes are cleaned and disinfected per policy.
• Ensure endoscopic accessories are cleaned and sterilized after use.
• Conduct leakage tests after endoscope use as per manufacturer recommendations.

Position Summary

Provides hospital and affiliated facilities with processed materials and equipment by executing established procedures for decontamination, assembly, packaging, and sterilization. Maintains efficient flow of processing procedures, through appropriate case set-up, anticipation of health care provider requests and patient care needs.

What the Sterile Processing Technician II ( SPT ) will do:

• Properly identifies and decontaminates instruments through use of washer/decontaminator equipment and proper hand-washing techniques.
• Assembles instruments correctly, ensuring appropriate cleanliness and function is achieved.
• Prepares instruments for sterilization through proper packaging, rigid container system, and wrapping techniques.
• Sterilizes instruments by correctly loading carts and operating sterilizers (Steam Sterilizer and Low Temper a ture ).
• Properly handles sterilized instruments for storage and distribution.
• Maintains efficient flow of processing procedures, through appropriate case cart set-up, anticipation of health care provider requests and patient care needs.
• Maintains the GI unit environment and endoscopic equipment, accessories, and supplies as directed. Ensures proper use, function, and safety within infection control guidelines.
• Ensures all endoscopes are cleaned and disinfected according to institutional policy and procedures.
• Ensures endoscopic accessories are cleaned and sterilized after use.
• Ensures that a leakage test is performed following each use of endoscope per manufacturer recommendations.
• Make sure to check angulation of scopes as needed.
• Send out endoscopes in need of repair and communicate that with Manager and Service Line Lead.
• Implements universal precautions.
