Compensation

The estimated pay range for this position is $22.6062 to $27.8027. This includes a 6% premium pay. Additional compensation may be available through incentives, bonuses, and differentials. The role may also be eligible for participation in the Kern County Employees’ Retirement Plan.

Position Summary

Performs decontamination, cleaning, assembling, packaging, scanning, sterilization, storage, and distribution of reusable surgical/medical instrumentation and equipment.

Distinguishing Characteristics

The Sterile Processing Technician II is a certified level within the Sterile Processing Technician series, demonstrating high standards of surgical conscience and understanding of sterilization principles to ensure quality decontamination and sterilization of medical supplies.

Essential Functions
  • Knowledge of maintenance, cleanliness, and sterilization of instruments and equipment.
  • Awareness of appropriate sterilization methods per manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Knowledge of high-level disinfection and sterilization of endoscopy equipment, including logging, testing, and biological monitoring.
  • Receives soiled instrumentation and performs decontamination per instructions.
  • Uses PPE and practices standard precautions.
  • Prepares decontamination and assembly areas with necessary supplies.
  • Tests equipment efficiency and reports issues.
  • Wraps, labels, and monitors sterilized items.
  • Places sterilized instruments on shelves, maintains inventory, and prioritizes processing tasks.
  • Performs quality controls like Bowie Dick, DART, and biological tests.
  • Maintains documentation accurately and thoroughly.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Possesses thorough knowledge of surgical instrumentation.
  • Maintains inventory and performs environmental maintenance duties.
  • Communicates equipment needs and maintains current knowledge of industry trends.
Employment Standards
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of an approved Sterile Processing course or equivalent experience required.
  • Certification from CBSPD or IAHCSMM required.
  • Must obtain and maintain BLS certification within 60 days if not already certified.
Additional Information
  • Background checks and fingerprinting may be required.
  • All employees are Disaster Service Workers and must be prepared to report to work during emergencies.
  • Valid California Driver’s License required if driving is part of the role.
