Location: Primarily Lancaster General Hospital with the possibility of also working at Women's and Babies and the Suburban Outpatient Pavilion in Lancaster, PA.

Schedule: Full time (40 hours per week), Monday through Friday from 3pm-11:30pm, rotating weekends, holidays, and on-call.

Summary:

  • Supports the Operating Room schedule by decontaminating, inspecting, assembling, packaging, and sterilizing surgical instrumentation.
  • Ensures the finished surgical instrument set is assembled appropriately for the scheduled procedure and that all instruments and supplies are dispatched to the correct location.
  • Adheres to all Perioperative standards of practice and departmental policies.
  • Serves as a resource to the team and is responsible for personal professional development related to the department.

Accountabilities

  • Performs decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, and sterilization of surgical instrumentation, linens, and identifies items needing repairs.
  • Follows the established priority list, O.R. schedule, and telephone requests for instruments.
  • Navigates automated instrument tracking system software.
  • Produces at least 15 instrumentation sets per day.
  • Demonstrates basic knowledge of the T-doc system and documents processed materials accordingly.
  • Understands the needs of patients, faculty, and staff of UPHS and affiliates.
  • Maintains HIPAA and JCAHO compliance standards.

Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of disinfectants and chemical germicides.
  • Ability to reference MSDS.
  • Knowledge of procedures for steam sterilization machines emergencies.
  • Ability to assist clinicians in surgical specialties as needed.
