Job summary

Firelands Health in Sandusky, OH, seeks a Sterile Processing Technician to prepare and distribute sterile supplies, process instruments, and support patient care while following policies.

The job requires multitasking, critical thinking, basic arithmetic, and accurate record-keeping, with on-site duties during 1pm–9:30pm and flexible call hours. Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• If not certified, complete a sterile processing certification within two years; keep current.
• Must demonstrate multitasking and advanced critical thinking.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic and maintain orderly records.
• Ability to understand instructions and communicate effectively in writing and speaking.

Responsibilities

• Maintains a sufficient amount of supplies on patient units and distributes supplies as requested (including STAT requests).
• Processes instruments and supplies by cleaning, packaging, sterilizing and storing per policy.
• Checks for outdated supplies, rotates stock and keeps department clean and orderly.
• Checks specialty carts and follows up on patient charge compliance.
• Maintains equipment for patient care; documents loss of equipment, instruments, and/or supplies.

What You Will Do

• Maintains a sufficient amount of supplies on patient units and distributes supplies to units when requested (including STAT requests).
• Processes instruments and supplies by cleaning, packaging, sterilizing and storing in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Checks for outdated supplies, rotates supplies and assists in keeping a clean and orderly department by putting supplies away correctly.
• Checks specialty carts and follows up on patient charge compliance.
• Maintains equipment for patient care. Documents loss of equipment, instruments, and/or supplies.

What You Will Need

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• If not currently certified, must successfully complete an approved sterile processing certification program within two years of hire date in department. Certification must be kept current.
• Must have multi-tasking and advanced critical thinking skills, and the ability to maintain these characteristics when working alone.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations.Ability to keep orderly records.
• Ability to understand instructions and communicate effectively in both written and oral forms.
