Job summary

Geisinger Community Medical Center is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician for the Day shift (6:30am - 3pm). You will clean, decontaminate, assemble, package and sterilize reusable surgical instruments to maintain sterility for procedures.

Requires a High School diploma or GED and CRCST certification within 18 months of hire; grandfathering may apply. Training is provided if not certified. Eligible candidates may receive a $1,500 signing bonus and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• CRCST certification required within 18 months of hire or must meet state grandfathering guidelines.
• Already CRCST certified? We value your expertise and provide training to obtain required certification.
• Certification(s) in Sterile Processing field (HSPA or CBSPD) is preferred if applicable.

Responsibilities

• Store and distribute sterile equipment and maintain sterility for procedures.
• Monitor decontamination and sterilization equipment; maintain records and inventory.

Responsible for the cleaning, decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of reusable surgical instruments and medical equipment, ensuring their proper functionality and sterility to prevent infection within a healthcare facility, adhering to strict guidelines and protocols established by regulatory agencies. Collecting used and contaminated equipment, instruments, and supplies for sorting and decontamination. Manually cleaning supplies of contaminants, removing waste matter, and operating and maintaining decontamination equipment. Preparing and packing decontaminated supplies for sterilization. Monitoring and operating sterilization equipment. Acts as a preceptor new employees. Examining supplies meticulously to ensure they are properly cleaned and sanitized. Testing and reporting any issues or problems with the sterilization equipment. Sterilizing, preparing, wrapping, and organizing equipment into instrument trays for use during medical procedures. Preparing and delivering all necessary equipment and instruments for surgeries, examinations, medical procedures, and medical carts. Maintaining records of sterilization procedures, sterilized items, equipment maintenance, and supplies. Controlling the inventory, reordering supplies, and checking expiration dates. Work is typically performed in a clinical environment. Accountable for satisfying all job specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures.
