Job description

Starting Pay and Sign-On Bonus

Starting Pay - $19.61/hour+ based on years of experience

$3,000.00 sign-on bonus may be available for qualified candidates with a one-year work commitment, in accordance with UVA policy.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Independently perform and participate in decontamination, cleaning, assembling, packaging, scanning, sterilization, storage, and distribution of reusable surgical instrumentation, supplies, and equipment. Responsibilities may include ordering, receiving, conducting cycle counts, pulling cases for the Operating Room, stocking supplies, instruments, and pans, restocking clean cart supplies, expediting supplies to the OR, and stocking OMNICELL cabinets with room stock. Clean storeroom, keep stock in order, verify expiration dates, and ensure correct items are stored in their correct locations.
  2. Prepare and assemble surgical trays and equipment following established tray listings for issue, storage, or further processing (such as sterilization).
  3. Monitor, read, document, and interpret all parameters for sterilizers (e.g., ETO, Steam, Steris, and Sterrad) to ensure proper function.
  4. Clean and decontaminate reusable equipment, instruments, and supplies manually and mechanically (Hand Washing, Washer/Sterilizer, Ultrasonic Cleaner, Scope Washer, Cart Washer).
  5. Gather, assemble, and distribute surgical supplies, instruments, and medical equipment upon request or through case cart requisitions.
  6. Operate the departmental bar code system to maintain records for surgical trays and instruments received, processed, and distributed (SPM Tracking System).
  7. Maintain cleanliness of the area and keep stock in order.
  8. Serve as preceptor in primary work area/assignment.
  9. Perform special projects as assigned.
  10. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Position Compensation Range

$17.31 - $26.83 Hourly

Minimum Requirements
  • Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent.
  • Experience: 1-2 years of Sterile Processing experience required.
  • Licensure: Certification as CRCST (Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician) through HSPA OR CSPDT (Central Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician) through CBSPD.
Physical Demands

Job requires sitting/standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping/traveling, and reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive). Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills; attention to detail; ability to write legibly; ability to lift/push/pull 25-50 lbs. Working in environments with fumes, chemicals, vibrations, heat, noise, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.
