Job summary

McLaren Health Care in Lansing, MI is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to decontaminate, assemble and sterilize instruments and medical equipment. Responsibilities include monitoring wash solutions, sorting instrument sets, maintaining inventory, and supporting the operating room and storage areas.

Required are a high school diploma and certification (CBSPD or HSPA) with completion of a sterile processing course. Prior experience is preferred, and the role is full-time with day hours.

Responsibilities

• Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments, medical supplies, and equipment, and assembles, wraps and sterilizes trays of instruments.
• Monitors biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination and sterilization areas.
• Sorts mismatched sets of instruments, trays, and medical equipment and makes them available to sterile processing customers in a timely manner.
• Re-stocks, labels, and maintains inventory, submits requisitions, collects and distributes instruments, trays, crash carts, and facility medical equipment.
• Performs environmental maintenance duties and assists in maintaining inventory levels in sterile processing, the operating room, and storage areas.
• Verifies that equipment functions properly, requisitions for equipment maintenance, repair or replacement, and removes defective equipment.
• Assists with maintaining established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality improvement, safety and infection control standards.
• Performs other related duties as required and directed.

Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of approved sterile processing course and certification as a sterile processing technician by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA).

Preferred:

• Prior experience in sterile processing preferred.
