Job summary

SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital - Lake Saint Louis in Missouri is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to join our dedicated team.

This role involves inspecting, assembling and evaluating surgical instruments to ensure proper sterilization and readiness for procedures, under the supervision of the Sterile Processing department. You will decontaminate, inspect and assemble instrument sets, maintain inventory for case carts, and support a safe, efficient operating room environment during daytime

Qualifications

• High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience.
• CRCST certification or CSPDT certification required.

Responsibilities

• Performs decontamination of soiled instruments, sterilization containers and equipment according to established protocols.
• Inspects instruments, equipment and containers to ensure cleanliness and proper functioning.
• Corrects instrument sets according to current standards and established count sheets and/or instrument tracking systems.
• Maintains proper levels of inventory to ensure availability for case carts.
• Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

Inspects, assembles and evaluates all surgical instruments and instrument sets to ensure proper sterilization, completeness of set, and to determine need for repair/replacement.

Primary Responsibilities

Physical Requirements

• Constant standing and walking.
• Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
• Frequent reaching and gripping.
• Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
• Occasional bending, stooping, climbing, kneeling, squatting, twisting and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
• Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
• Occasional use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
• Occasional use of smell to detect/recognize odors.
• Rare crawling, sitting and keyboard use/data entry.

Required Professional License And/Or Certifications

• Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA)
• Or
• Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) - The Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD)
