Job summary

East Bay Surgery Center, LLC is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to support the Ophthalmic Surgery department. This on-site role requires high school education, and certification in sterile processing.

You will decontaminate, sterilize, and assemble instruments, maintain clean workspaces, and follow safety standards to ensure patient safety. The position emphasizes teamwork, physical capability, and adherence to departmental policies.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Proficiency and understanding of medical terminology that accompanies the SPD department.
• Current Sterile Processing Certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments, medical supplies and equipment, and assembles, wraps and sterilizes trays of instruments.
• Follows proper Standard Precautions while in decontamination and sterilization areas.
• Monitors biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment.
• Sorts sets of instruments, trays, and medical equipment and makes them available to sterile processing customers in a timely manner.
• Performs environmental maintenance duties and assists in maintaining inventory levels in sterile processing, the operating room, and in equipment storage areas.
• Verifies that equipment functions properly, requisitions for equipment maintenance, repair or replacement, and removes defective equipment.

POSITION SUMMARY

• Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments, medical supplies and equipment, and assembles, wraps and sterilizes trays of instruments.
• Follows proper Standard Precautions while in decontamination and sterilization areas.
• Monitors biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment.
• Sorts sets of instruments, trays, and medical equipment and makes them available to sterile processing customers in a timely manner.
• Performs environmental maintenance duties and assists in maintaining inventory levels in sterile processing, the operating room, and in equipment storage areas.
• Verifies that equipment functions properly, requisitions for equipment maintenance, repair or replacement, and removes defective equipment.
• Maintains a clean work area.
• Assists with maintaining established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality improvement, safety, and environmental and infection control standards.
• Communicates appropriately using good interpersonal skills.
• Orthopedic experience preferred.

EDUCATION

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Proficiency and understanding of medical terminology that accompanies the SPD department.

Required Certifications

• Must have Current Sterile Processing Certification

EXPERIENCE

• Opthalmic experience preferred.

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMAND:

• Standing or walking most of the day. Sufficient mobility and strength to move throughout department.
• Lifting heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Pushing and pulling sterilizer carriages, case carts and wire supply carts.
• Heavy lifting or bending associated with decontaminating soiled instruments, laundry placement and garbage from the Operating Room.
• May be exposed to blood, sharp objects, and infectious diseases.
• May be required to wear personal protection equipment for lengthy periods of time.
