Job summary

Avera St Mary's Hospital is seeking a Sterilization Technician to join our team in South Dakota. This role supports decontamination, assembly and sterilization processes, providing safe products for patient use on routine and urgent needs.

The successful candidate will operate steam, ETO and hydrogen peroxide sterilizers, ultrasonic cleaner, washer/sterilizer, and cart washer, while maintaining strict QA standards and safety practices.

Responsibilities

  • Performs decontamination, assembly and sterilization per Infection Control and QA guidelines.
  • Operates steam, ETO and hydrogen peroxide sterilizers, ultrasonic cleaner, washer/sterilizer and cart washer.
  • Operates equipment per manufacturer instructions ensuring operator safety.
  • Uses computer to access information and communicate with manager and co-workers.
  • Reports broken or malfunctioning instruments and equipment.
  • Uses desktop, laptop computers and handheld PDA for decontamination, assembly and tracking.
  • Answers phones and meets customers' needs professionally.

Rotating Shifts: week one: 6:30am-3pm, week two: 7:30am-4pm, week three: 8:30am-5pm. Monday-Friday

A Brief Overview

Performs decontamination and sterilization procedures according to Infection Control and QA guidelines. Provides the physicians, OR staff, and nurses with products safe for patient use on a routine basis or as emergency needs demand.

What you will do
  • Performs decontamination, assembly and sterilization, according to Infection Control and established QA monitoring guidelines as demonstrated by annual competency review.
  • Operates sterilization equipment which includes: steam, ETO, and hydrogen peroxide sterilizers, ultrasonic cleaner, washer/sterilizer, and automated cart washer.
  • Operates equipment according to manufacturer operational directions and in a manner that ensures the safety of the operator as demonstrated by annual competency review.
  • Utilizes computer to access information; communication with manager, supervisors and co-workers.
  • Reports broken and malfunctioning instruments and equipment to the supervisor or manager.
  • Utilizes desktop and laptop computers and handheld PDA for instrument decontamination, assembly and tracking functions.
  • Answers phones and meets customer’s needs in a professional manner.
