GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES

• Eight‑hour days Monday through Friday.
• Responsible for the care and preparation of surgical instruments and supplies.
• Maintains established inventory levels by checking supplies and equipment.
• Orders supplies for the area.
• Performs appropriate testing of all sterilizers and keeps accurate records.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / REQUIREMENTS

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• State licensure or certification as a Sterilization Technician, as required by state regulations or contract specifications.
• At least 1 year of experience working in a fast‑paced operating room setting.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS

• Ability to be on your feet for long periods, lift or turn patients.
• Requires sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment.
• Ability to concentrate for periods of up to four hours.
• Ability to communicate verbally in person and over the telephone.
• Ability to use a computer keyboard and view a computer monitor.
• May be exposed to communicable diseases and unpleasant sights, odors, and materials.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Demonstrated knowledge of sterile processing principles and procedures as applicable to surgical instruments and supplies.
• Proficient in the nursing process and ability to apply best practices to the sterile processing workflow.
• Ability to utilize recognized channels of communication.
• Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships with patients, co‑workers, and other health team members.
